Killing newborn babies no different from abortion, experts say

I really hate the old "self-aware" concept. I'd love for someone to define it or why it matters in any meaningful way.

Also, why are we treating babies as if they're some kind of foreign organism. We are babies. Babies are human. :/

Whilst you're completely wrong to not consider a baby to be alive until it has been born, you actually have the right idea. You just have the wrong timeline.

Babies are self-aware well before being born. They are being affected by the world around them, listening to the mother's voice (and father's, and music, etc.) and learning and so on well before birth.

About 16 weeks should be the cutoff point IMO.

Seems a rather arbitrary distinction. I can understand the argument that the cut off should be when the baby could survive without the mother, but not towards the end of a full term pregnancy.

You can't tell me I'm wrong just for airing my opinion, especially on a subject like this, as long as the law isn't broken then there is no right or wrong

I know babies are born premature everyday and I definitely wouldn't ever consider an abortion unless it was within the first few months. Anything past 6 months I'd feel guilty about it but what they're suggesting in that article is akin to stabbing the kid as it is born, it's murder IMO once it's outside the womb.

Take my situation, my girlfriend and I have just bought a house, she's on birth control (implant) but if she got pregnant, I wouldn't hesitate in convincing her to get it aborted as we just don't have the money to raise a kid yet. Having said that, if by some miracle we both didn't notice the pregnancy until a few months (it has been known for women to go a few months without noticing pregnancy) then I think we'd both have to seriously consider our options.

God forbid any moral gray areas get involved, either!

I wonder whether they have thought it through properly i.e. the majority of the profound abnormalities are recessive carried conditions that are overwhelmingly expressed in the consanguineous relationships of immigrant Muslim families ...

Now they have to move from the one extreme of "save all the kids" to "kill 'em all sponging foreigners".

If you deprive something it has never experienced or has no concept of then how can it miss it? The baby isn't going to suffer either as once it is dead it is dead.

I fail to see why so many people get so worked up about this. People only have an opionion when they somehow personalise it and get emotionally attached.

But what gives any person the right to deprive a baby of life?

Think thats the bigger question tbh

Well we can apply that to you can't we. You comprehension of your future is I am guessing nowhere complete: you can't appreciate love till you've really found it, you can't appreciate parental love till you have experienced it, etc. So can we shoot you now?

Is there any moral justification for keeping a child born with no senses alive?

Have to agree. Don't really understand the point in life for kids in wheel chairs completely unable to care for themselves or even hold any social connection with someone. Baffles me.

Would you have had Helen Keller killed at birth?

It wasn't my opinion, it was a hypothetical question. Besides, developing it after birth isn't the same as being born with it, nor is being deaf and blind the same as having no senses at all. No way to experience or interact with the outside world. No way to learn, you would stay as a baby your entire life. Quite probably a completely mad one.

Yes, the question being though is their future "a life". With an inevitable end through a path of suffering then the humane and loving thing to do may well be to remove someone from going through that ordeal.

I think abortions should be medicaly related only and option of medical staff only!

My ex killed my daughter via an illegal abortion @ 28 weeks.

The option to kill a baby, a child, a life soon as you've given bither is sick.

So for 9 months you winge about getting fat, being moody then cos it's red head or has a defect you kill it.

Maybe stop the drinking, smoking and drugs!

Yes, much better to force a woman to carry a child she doesn't wan't and have her agency of her own body taken away.

You sicken me.

What gives you the right to deprive any animal of life? I agree with you, no one should be deprived of life, but this is a question of suffering. How is this any different to faaping in a tissue?
