Official Ivy Bridge Information

I'm still using an old E2180 so I'm way behind the times on CPUs, but looking at the info how comes the top ivy bridge core has 4 cores 8 threads and less L3 cache compared to the current top i7 which has more l3 cache and 6 cores 12 threads? I would have expected a similar range of cores with just the 22nm fabrication process. As I said though I don't keep up to date too much with the latest gen stuff as I simply can't afford it.

Looking forward to see if there is a good chip like the 2500k in Ivy.

The equivalent is the i5-3550, but the nearest unlocked one is the i5-3570k but with a higher stock clock, yes?

I hope they clock as well as Ivy, and will run cooler due to being a 22nm process now.

Looking forward to the benchmarks

Yeah the i5-3570k has a higher default clock than the 2500k, it certainly looks like one to watch. Looking forward to seeing some benchmarks. I wonder what the pricing of these and the new z77 motherboards will be.

Because the top i7 is SB-E and IB-E isn't out for another year. IB is consumer, IB-E is performance.

That would be nice but i doubt this will happen anytime soon.

AMD FX-4170 is 4+GHZ stock speed, though doubt Intel will release processors with that sort of frequency at stock in the near future, they are all about power efficient designs and what not nowadays.

When these are released the 3770K will be tempting, depending on it's retail pricing.

However I think I should be able to resist, and stick with my 2600K a while longer.

Saw the official line up earlier and it was pretty much what was expected really, no surprises. I'll be interested in the price and performance of the i5-3570k. If it comes out at a similar price to the 2500k and overclocks like a demon, it's likely I'll upgrade.
