Twitter - Trending - Hashtags

Then don't use twitter. Or just ignore the tags.

It's not a difficult concept to grasp, I don't like Facebook, I don't use Facebook, I don't like text speak, I don't use text speak.

Welcome to the wonderful world of free will.

Twitter is great for people like myself trying to market stuff. But it's also littered with teenies talking about what they're going to have for lunch.

When a mature, online marketing driven trend comes about, sure. But when it's some ******** thing... Meh.

I used to use twitter but then they determined that correcting peoples bad use of grammar was spam when it clearly isn't. I am just protecting the English language from those who think a lot is one word.

I have never got the point of twitter, am I missing something good?

Maybe, it depends on what you want to use it for.

I use it to be kept up to date with music, writers, artists, games etc, it works perfectly for that purpose.

You don't have to actually tweet, in fact I actively discourage people from doing it.

See that's spot on. Online marketing, some properly famous people you like to follow (like Chris Harris who does interesting car reviews) or for you average teen who likes to follow other celebs. But when it's just some person who no one gives a **** about.....

I don't know quite what's so annoying about it tbh, it's almost genius in the simplicity of the concept.

ok, sorry for my ignorance, but I have never used twitter, what is all this hashtag stuff all about  I have noticed it mention on tv and stuff, but never really worried about it, as I don't use twitter.

Never could understand any of it, signed up to it etc, but seems like a cluster **** of a mess of random links to other stories posted by people and random messages, just seemed like a huge headache and a mess of a place.

I will also never understand why the BBC is all over it and shows are constantly telling people to follow them on it, its blatant free advertising for the service, even in France they noticed this and banned all free advertising or talk about it on their TV shows.

In short if people want to talk about a certain subject they can use a 'hashtag' which denotes their 'tweet' is about that subject.

The genius in it is that people can then search for a hashtag and you will get all the posts from people on that subject, plus you can look at the trend so if there is a sudden upward trend of people posting the #davidcameroncomesout hashtag then you can assume that there has been a bit of recent newsworthy activity :p

so I could (don't flame me if this aint how it works) hashtag my completely pointless tweets with something that is really popular, and it would show up when someone searched for that popular thing? or is it done by taking key things from the tweet with no user control?
