Make Bradford British TV Program

Seen some muslim hatred on a couple of bus stops near where I live, daft, Wigan is one of the whitest places I've been don't understand how the racists can still complain. Nevermind, every day that goes by is a day closer to getting out of here! :D Spoken to a lot of people of many races and never experienced any problems. Sometimes a language barrier between them and my thick burly northern accent but we get there eventually and it makes for good conversation too.

Justintime: Hey, "back in the day" you English used to give us "jocks" all kinds of ****. Heard of William Wallace? Or we not going that far back in time? ;)

**** is a contraction of Pakistani
Scot is a contraction of Scotman/Scottish

I see no difference unless used in a vulgar way which could equally be said about anything ... That Scots barsteward, that **** .... In that case its not the term to describe race but the context of the statement.

Maybe things are different in Glasgow but Im fairly certain when we say "Im off to the Pakis, you need anything?" in reference to the local corner location convenience store we arent causing offence or intending to. Same with saying Im going to order from the Chinkys - its not a slur in that case.

As for the N word, havent rap n hip hop folk turned that into a brand or is that too OG ?

PS: I dont group all Asians into one group, I didnt say that so get your facts right sigma.

Your post said that you were surprised why 'most of the local Asians' didn't like being called Pakis. How is that not grouping all Asians as one?

That's like being surprised that calling all European people English (or whatever) would not be welcome by say, Germans.

You think the word ****** is a brand? LOL, seriously?

Intradasting....

I know most of the local asians in glasgow routinely refer to the pale faces as goras but also take offense to being called Pakis.

I dont mind when people call me Scots nor do Australians mind being called Aussies (well the ones I know dont anyway).

Well. Where do we begin here?

Gora is a term used to describe pale skinned people, it is not an inherrantly racist term.

**** is a racist term. You said the local asians take offense to being called ****. It wouldn't be right for someone to constantly refer to a Scottish person as a Welshman, or a Spanish person as Italian, would it?

sigma: ok if you want to be pedantic - I'll rephrase my terminology for you ... "Most of the local Pakistanis take offence to being called Pakis" happy now :D Having lived and worked in Pakistani community areas like Govanhell, Pollockshaws, Shawlands etc and more importantly having run a company in partnership with a Pakistani fella and his family I know how things play out up here.

I also know the term gora is used as a racial slur against white folks up here, but hey you dont live here so dont know anything about it :D

TheCent: See above.

As explained above Im not racist, I hate all races equally :D - But on a serious note I wouldnt go into business with someone nor would I have a lot of good friends of an ethnic origin if I was.

Yours sincerely,

Rikki the lun ;)

Rikki stop talking out of your ***,

"gora" is NOT a racial slur, its the same thing as describing someone as black, asian or white.

"gora wrang" is a term used to describe light skin asian kids as a complement, hardly a racial slur is it? .....

Pakis and chinky's ARE racist terms, can’t believe you are even trying to debate that, personally think your just trolling waiting for someone to take the bait.

And its not a get out clause saying "i have asian friends, so cant be racist" whilst actually making racist remarks.

At the end of the day people are only offended by these words because they've been told to be offended, it's the same with smacking your child on the bum... physically disciplining a child has been done for millenia but suddenly the government/media pops up with its "smacking your child is abuse" campaign and the next thing you know you can't disclipline your child in public without everybody looking at you as if you're assaulting them.

They've basically programmed the masses into believing that particular words makes someone a racist, it doesn't matter what context it is used in simply saying it is all it takes.

I wasn't being pedantic. Perhaps you should consider what you're typing before you post in the future. :)

Oh god.. its so true.. i'll take the next boat out of here to my born homeland. (do ferries go to Edmonton?)

Serious question, would you have the testicular fortitude to discuss your views face to face with me in real life or are you one of those people who share your views anonymously and never act on it and stay timid in public? I say if you really feel this way, do something about it, join the NF or something and take your country back from us dark invaders.

I would openly discuss my views with you face to face - am I supposed to be intimidated or something? Have I missed your e-peen measurements?

Perhaps note that I didn't pass a single opinion in my post. So, to backtrack slightly here, I would probably decline to have a discussion and frank exchange of views with you face-to-face because, frankly, you come across as somebody devoid of the intellectual capacity to adequately handle such a discussion.

And frankly, petrol is too pricey for me to waste it driving to Edmonton for the disappointment.

lol not a threat at all but i just find that a lot of people hide behind their computer screens and shoot off their opinions but don't do a thing in real life. Sorry that i've put you in some sort of defensive mode. Cool response though, you really put me in my place.

If defensive is pointing out the facts, then yes.

I have no interest in putting people in 'their place.'

Powell was a raving racist, you'll get no argument from me there. I work in an industry where the division of opinion is a mere irrelevancy for anthropologists and journalists to bang on about. The fact is that Powell's predictions on the explosion of net inflows of population to the UK were correct. He was also correct that it would have a severe effect on the UK's finances. I really couldn't give a monkey's about the colour of your skin, the religion to have (or don't) or origin of your ancestors.

If you actually watched the video (from a BBC documentary, I hasten to add) then you wouldn't have made the reply you did as all of the above was stated.

I admit i did not watch the video, i saw Powell and 'right' and it immediately drew memories of that very saying being said by some nice native folk when i was a kid as they had me in an Alleyway and were ready to fix me i suppose, only the appearance of a local bobby saved my bacon. Apologies.

No sweat, I get it. He remains one of the most inflammatory characters in our political history for a good reason; he was nuts.

Whats your take on being offended by being called **** as a contraction of Pakistani but the younger generation of the same people referring to each other and elder ones as "TPs" or "typical pakis" ? Another term banded around quite a lot in Glasgow.

Is that ok?

Of course it's not OK.

That's like asking a black person if they're happy being called a ****** because Nigeria begins with with nig.
