Lines on screen - Laptop.

Have a Acer 5742 laptop which has being good but over the last 3-4 weeks i have being get lines down my screen along with a sort of fuzzy line around the screen at the top.
Also the laptop will randomly shut down with no warning and takes about 3 attempts to restart, i thought this was a heat issue and have given the laptop a blast of air but problem still occurs. Temperatures average around mid 40 degrees :eek:

Laptop is about 13 month old (typical now there is no warranty).

Any one have any advise, thanks.

Even if it was sold with a 12 month warranty you may still be able to enforce your rights under the Sales of Goods Act.

Have a Google and read up on expected durability of products. Your retailer will probably try to fob you off, so don’t give up at the first refusal.

I had a similar problem, sometimes it would start up, others it would have lines going across the screen, sometimes green, different direstions and everything, it was a faulty stick of RAM (I already knew this, I bought it broken) put a new one in and it works fine! Try a different stick of RAM, or try it in another laptop if you can, it fixed mine!

my old acer used to do this once in a blue moon, I gently tapped the base of the screen and it solved the issue

i would give this a go mate but i have not a clue where the receipt is ... i have every other important receipt except my laptop.

will give memtest a run as i don't have any spare laptop RAM to try. I think atm there is 2x2 2gb sticks so will test each stick.

lol! have being doing this to get rid of the lines but they seem to come back after 10 mins or so.
