Father not allowed to be alone with his daughter after reporting CP images on his computer to police

Quite ironic when I have had numerous incidents at work where I have actively wanted to prevent children going back to their families to known and admitted actually active abusive relationships (physical/sexual/emotional and neglect) and yet the children are sent back for a variety of quite insane reasons all justified by the "SS". Which makes me think we are not getting the full story here. But I have seen exaggerated responses both ways.
 
Calling the police because you accidentalied some child porn is a major stupid thing to do in the first case.

How can the police / social services tell whether it was completely accidental or not?

They will examine the harddrive and probably ask his ISP to provide logs.

100% right. The Social Services allow abusive parents to carry on living with the children and yet a man who was worried about his computers porn, does the right thing by informing the police and maybe they can find the source.

Crazy just crazy and the knock on effect this will have on the family is dreadfull.
 
I can understand reporting dodgy stuff on a computer outside your home but on you own PC is just asking for trouble. I suspect that there is more to this than we are being told.

I think the guy is just being honest. Who would download CP then call the police about it? They will easily be able to find out whether he is lying or not anyway.
 
...... So what happens if someone were to download child pornography on someone elses computer and report it?

My gosh ...... now seriously if you ever find someone that you really really really dont like ....
 
I think the suspicion is his wife caught him and then they reported it rather than he accidentally downloaded it, discussed it with his wife and then reported it.
 
You'd be an absolute **** to do that bhavv. I wouldn't even do that to my worst enemy. It can ruin the rest of someones life. But I know where your coming from, but it could also backfire if they could prove it was you.
 
Why not just.........................delete the stuff in the first place?

What did he expect the police to do?

Who are they going to investigate?

Who are they going to arrest?

Dumb wa.
 
Isn't it more likely that he got busted by his wife, then she put an ultimatum such as she will call the police if he will not?
Music eh...that sounds like an excuse, all of us downloaded music ain't never did we stumbled upon child porn did we, is he the the unluckiest guy in the universe to be the first one? Doubt it.

Edit: OR under assumption that he ain't got a clue how computers work, he downloaded music, went to downloaded files and found child porn that could have been left there by his wife, does the right thing and reports it only to be blamed. I just find it hard to believe that wife would just casually discuss it, I'd imagine her first reaction would be to freak out thinking he is a pedo. So, wife was all too understanding and calm...not natural.

So somebody in that household downloaded child porn, somebody is guilty...might even be daughter!

The amount of time he will spend without his laptop is hardly the issue here! You think that bothers him in the grand scheme of things, when he can simply go and get another one and he's not allowed to be alone with his daughter?

He should never have told the police, people will assume he's a CP addict even if he's deemed completely innocent by the justice system.

Lesson learnt society: never tell the police anything.
 
There is a possibility that no one has thought about, he simply downloaded Virgin Killer by the scorpions with the original LP cover.

Then took one look at the cover and went OMG child porn and overreacted.

If that is aimed at me - him not having his laptop for a year isn't my point :p. I am wondering how and why it will take the police up to one year to do it.

Yeah I presume he didn't delete the files either so I don't know how it could take that long. Unless there is a backhaul on equipment being examined.
