Tesco Petrol prices in you area pls help

I got my insurance renewal from tesco last May

650 odd quid from 450 quid. I rang them complained...asked them for the price increase and justification and after saying that premiums were going up they could not give me an answer as why they put it up 200 pounds.

I threatened to cancel my policy and they offered me a new quote that was 4 quid a month more expensive for the same policy.

Complaining and challenging works!

You never know, part of the planning might have been to do with not undercutting the total.

Now this I intend to find out. There was no mention of this in the planning application and certainly not made public.

There was a local Vote BTW before the Tesco site was actioned.

Congrats BTW on posting a quality thought out response.

I very much doubt Tesco are price fixing on their petrol.

I don't deny that it is not possible, however, generally speaking prices will be set competitively with other places in the area. Ten miles for 3p isn't much really, when you take into cost of travelling that ten miles in time.

Personally, when I'm not at uni, I live in a relatively small town, but we have three large cities around about ten miles away from us, in different directions. I imagine the prices could vary quite a bit, but no one is going to go that extra distance unless they commute or travel that way frequently anyway.

This kind of comes down to a slight deviation on the Hotelling model. Realstically 3p is not enough to encourage people to drive that extra ten miles, so they can afford the 3p increase. People who live in the middle, say 6miles from the cheaper pump and 4 miles from the more expensive pump may be encouraged to go to the cheaper pump instead, but if it were a 6.1mile, 3.9mile split instead they may choose the more expensive pump because of the cost of time involved.

Price fixing is actually pretty big business. Pharmaceutical companies, and beauty product companies have had issues with price fixing and being called on by the European competition commision. I can't actually remember off the top of my head what the exact cases are, and typically the EC's website is being horrifically slow. However people shouldn't reject it just because they don't think it actually happens. I must say I don't think it is happening in this case, but none-the-less, it isn't that ridiculous an idea. It is also legal for very few industries. (Net book agreement as an example).

I don't think anyone would disagree with you... but it does not always work, we all hit a dead end eventually because, lets face it, the world doesn't revolve around any one of us.

I will be creating a petition asking people to sign for fair tesco fuel prices

Why should we be paying more for the cheaper tesco prices only 10 miles away.

With it being a new store only weeks old. I feel people will sign it. especially the people who didn't want the tesco in the first place.

One of the main reasons I think for the store being agreed to was the station.

And what have we benefited from in the community? Nothing

Aye, nothing like reaction rather than proaction, did you take any interest in the original planning of the store? Did you question anything at all?

Have to agree with you here... Had all sorts of issues with Amazon. Spent a good few months arguing over something with their warranty department. I then phoned up consumer direct, asked them for advice, got somewhere with a couple of people, then got to some numpty who basically said, 'well because it's through Amazon and they didn't supply a return address on the invoice - which other consumer direct people I'd talked to had said was a requirement - we can't guarantee they're a British company, so the rules may not apply to them/we may not be able to do anything'. At that point I thought it was a joke and went through the manufacturer.

I don't want to get involved here but 3p is quite a substantial difference.

I can't deny for people doing a large volume of miles 3p is quite a lot. However, for those who do do a large volume of miles, they're likely to go past other stores where they could get the petrol for less. I don't disagree that perhaps it is not the greatest idea, but there isn't anything illegal about what Tesco are doing, (on the basis we presume they're not price fixing) just arguably immoral.

The other thought is if you are doing 2000 miles a months, surely you know the lay of the land when it comes to the cheapest petrol stations on your travells?

So you say it takes 5 minutes to write a letter, but now you going to the trouble to viewing the planning application for the store?

All this over 3p a litre really?

I have 4 major Tesco stores nearby, all of them are £1.369 for petrol and £1.449 for the diesel apart from the largest and busiest store which is a penny more for both.

The letter took me 5 mins to write.

As a tesco cunstomer I feel hard done by and want answers.

Last time I complained to tesco they sent me out a 100 quid power washer. and 75 quids worth of Vouchers.

Its a genuine question and I want answers.

I complained to Viewsonic and they sent me out a new monitor and a cheque for £150

I contacted consumer direct after IBM refused to repair my laptop 1 month out of warranty. IBM repaired my laptop and gave me a new chassis and free ram upgrade.

Its hardly taxing creating a letter lol

I do nearly 2000 miles a month in my car and fuel cost's are big on my agenda.

I assume you had what they considered a genuine reaon for those complaints that they felt you should be compensated for.

Your "diesel is 3p a litre more" complaint is just a load of nonsense and will no doubt get the response it deserves.
