I have an interesting question for you all.

As I was bored, I decided to Google myself. Now being, what I can almost guarantee the only person in the world, past and present, with my name (I have a very unique surname), I was slightly bemused as one of the top results for me was a profile I apparently have on 'Thanksto.com'.

This is of particular interest to me, because quite literally all of the other top two pages of results are pages which I directly can attribute to my own actions.

Upon looking at the site, it seems relatively legit, so I am now a bit curious as to if someone is attempting to impersonating me, or has set up a profile in my name.

From what I can gather it seems to be a site which acknowledges people, and says thanks to them for their contributions to mankind. I in particular, seem to be thanking Tim Berners-Lee. Now I don't actually object to this in particular, and to add more to my suspicion, the owner of the group is a name I do in fact recognise. The website seems to be slightly linked to Facebook, however having checked my Facebook settings it has no links to the page, and should not give any access to the page either.

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this site? Or if there is any way to stop this site suggesting it has my support.

mate, unless you have a hippy created surname then i bet its not that unique. i used to think our surname was rare as the only other people with my surname are my mum, dad, wife and son. there is some little kid of facebook with my name though. if i search for my name i find all my posts on professional forums.

I also have a rare name. A Finnish name but spelt in the northern Finnish way and a very English but rare surname. Never seen another person online with my name. Luckily when I do Google myself there is a reference to a local newpaper article, my twitter account (which is redundant) and my old Xfire account.

Really? When I googled Marine Iguana, I got loads of hits.

My first name is spelt unusually, although a publisher does have the exact same name as me so it's all links to his books etc.

Loads of peeps with my name, and the RAF drumming champion too.
I'd rather see someone else pop up than me. That way if i see it on the news that loads of people with the same name as me are found dead, i know to go out and buy a dog.

I have a double barrelled surname, cuts it down considerably. My family also has quite a good recollection of our family tree. Put it this way, if you google just my surname I can account for all the direct matches for people on google xD

Same, although there's also a Canadian Rapper with the same name. I have him on facebook and once contemplated lolling at commenting on something of his and then seeing family/friends go "wat"
