The future death of PC gaming...

Vinyl might have survived as a tiny part of the market, but CDs are dying out now.

I just feel like playing devils advocate. I don't think pc gaming will actually die out... Although it'll be interesting to see what happens when tablets/phones over take consoles for graphics, seeing as tablet makers up date hardware on their devices every year as the longest period compared to consoles what, ten years?

The new iPad as an example has a higher native than most pc gamers play at... When graphics can power games at that res in tablets like consoles more people will switch away from desktops as of they want an awesome gaming experience they just plug the tablet into the tv... Which in themselves are becoming more and more powerful. Imagine when Samsung realise they can combine Their tablets and tvs to make a tv you can use as a tablet and can game on.. Or a 40inch iMac as a tv that you can game on...

Hate laptops, tablets and phones!!!

How could I fly helicopters in FSX on a tablet?

btw Vinyl listeners are increasing, google it!

Desktops rule the world and they are customisable

Vinyl is dead to everyone but DJs and hipsters. Last year in the US, sales of Adele's latest album were three times higher than all vinyl records combined. If Adele's album was the only album released all year, we would be justified in saying that the music industry was dead.

If there is to be a parallel with PC gaming then this would mean that in the future the only people gaming on a PC would be a small number who wouldn't be able to game on anything else (i.e. flight sim fans) and a tiny minority of hardcore gamers trying to convince themselves that the PC offers a better experience and even many of those people would own a console/tablet simply because most mainstream games would not be released on PC any more whereas the only PC exclusives would be the flight sims and the occasional indie game. I can see things heading that way.

Though if PC gaming is to die, consoles are more likely to do it than any tablet. Until it finds away around the lack of proper physical controls, the iPad isn't even going to kill portable consoles.

I'd like a 27" monitor at 264ppi although only 7 times the pixels I guess, would need a monster gpu to push that!

I will never stop gaming on a desktop! It isn't proper gaming with mouse keyboard headset etc! **** this tablet crap! Would only ever use one as a fancy ashtray if i ever had one!

Oh come on, it's not like developers are going to stop making games for the PC. Have you tried programming on a tablet?

Vinyl is popular because it's cool, because it's better and because there's a culture behind it that was lost when people started using the Internet. No more 'dude, i have to find this record, it's been bugging me for weeks', you just google it. The beauty of it is that people can choose.

Same with film. It's the analogue revolution ;)

Really though, stop dramaticising everything. There are advantages to tablets, yes. But they're just not part of a format that can realistically replace the functionality most people get from a PC.

Take it from someone who has had to use touchscreens almost daily for over 7 years at work, everyone will regret tablets when their fingers end up like mine.

There is no adequate replacement for tactile feedback.

I can't see it happening, i think people just need to see the console market as a separate thing - one that caters to a more casual audience. The only major change i can see happening is that streamed services such as Onlive may take a major share of the console market.

Tablets on the other hand won't kill off anything - they are too big to replace a phone and too small to be a portable pc (laptop). Tablets will either survive in their own niche or die off as a trendy gimmick

Desktop gaming beats consoles/tablets etc... purely on the fact that tablets are for casual gaming, you can imagine COD on the iPad lol

Consoles are fine, only IMO only beat PC's for one simple reason, can you see yourself playing COD in you're living room with a keyboard and mouse? you have to be sat at a desk for proper PC gaming at least consoles you can lay down and get proper comfy.

I'm a PC gamer, and I'll always be a PC gamer for one simple reason, WASD and a mouse is way more accurate than any pad for FPS'ers. Why the hell do you think consoles have the auto aim feature that PC's don't? thats bascially admitting they're worse at playing FPS'ers lol

Oh brother.....

Really bad analogy as well tbh. It's like saying floppy disks dying killed off PC gaming.

Lol what the hell do floppy's have to do with PC Gaming?

Gaming has evolved so much since then.

I wonder how many floppy's it would take to hold COD lol
