Hi

As title says. How do you guys get so motivated to work out/get fit/Actually get out the house and do things?

Up untill last week i worked 5 days a week on rotating shifts 6-2/2-10 etc and didnt really find the time to do much. Then when i get home the kids have finished school which means feeding time at the zoo. But now iv lost my job and have more free time than i know what to do with.

Im so lazy its unreal, my heart is not in it any more. Bout 6 years ago i was hitting the gym every day but our little boy came along and time was tight so i stopped. Now im obese so the doctors say and i need to get something done.

Im 6ft 2" and weigh 17 stone.

Love my food and have the belly and boobs to prove it. But iv always had boobs, no matter how hard i trained my chest my boobs never formed to peck, and this makes me really really embarrased and my confidence is shocking.

My head says "Right tmz im off for a run or im off to the gym" but when the morning comes round my body says "Na i cant be bothered". The brother in law keeps asking if i want to start going to the gym. I always say yes but we never actually go..

My diet is terrible too and im addicted to chocolate lol.

How do you guys get up and at it every day. My lazy/idle nature is hindering me.

What methods do you guys use to beat the motivation demons..

1. Girls, gotta get laid yo!

2. Set yourself strength targets, nothing like beating a previous personal best

3. Results, stick at it for a while, once you start seeing results regardless of what the goal may be (fat loss, muscle gain, strength gain, cutting time off of your 1mile time etc etc), it spurs you on even more. And with that said the bar is ever rising, i.e. you set yourself a target of a 100kg squat, once you get there, you'll soon raise it to 110, 120, 130, so on and so forth, it's never ending! :p

You either want it or you dont, it's simple. If you do then you will push yourself.

harsh but true

I plaster my living space and my computer with my goals and my dreams so I'm forced to confront them day in, day out.

I want to be the best I can be but I know there's days where fatigue, lethargy and pain can suck the life force clean out of me...it's for these days that I need my motivational slogans, posters, pictures and videos.

I tell myself I want it.

If you really want it, you can do it.

It may take a lot of motivation or just a switch in your head overnight, but you can do it!

I started cycling to work and the first two days I had the motivation I needed, then it went down hill and I had to "Just ****ing do it." after the first week though it became habbit to cycle in - I don't miss my car at all!

I keep a photograph of myself at 23 stone with me. Whenever I feel myself getting tempted to either eat unnecessarily or skip training, I take a look at the photo and remember how awful it felt to be disgustingly obese. Resolving to never go back to being that way is motivation enough for me.

Numerous reasons:

I like people coming up to me and saying "well... you're obviously a gym rat"

I like lifting really heavy weights.

I like being fitter and stronger than most people

I like that I can lift up my female friends easily. It excites them ;)

I like that people want my advice on getting healthier

I like that I can constantly see results.

embrace the life style.

I always wanted to get in to the gym and get myself looking better, so it was all about getting my foot in the door.

Once i had been lifting for a few months i started to notice the changes.

Now a year down the line its all about beating my personal bests, really nailing solid form, and being able to do more then i used to.

But iv always had boobs, no matter how hard i trained my chest my boobs never formed to peck

Okay, I'm no gym rat, but I did decide to reverse my weight gains last year and have shifted nearly 2 stone since the end of November.

Firstly - what are you on about doing chest exercises to lose moobs for? You need knowledge about how your body works so step 1, read some websites, buy some books. You wouldn't try to service your car without knowing the first thing about how it works so don't do the same with your body. I imagine it'll get a bad response but this makes a lot of sense.

Secondly - it's in your head. There's nothing in your body making you eat, it's depression, comfort, whatever you like to call it but you have to sort that out before anything else. The same as smokers, they only succeed when they really want to give up. Make the decision one way or another.

Finally - don't rush it. I gained 6 stone over 12 years, that's just half a pound a month. If I take 12 years to get rid of it I'm happy, the only rule I follow is weighing less at the end of the month than at the start.

Also, find something that inspires you, if its "that" song or film to watch/listen to the night before, it can all help.

For me, I watch this if I can feel myself slipping a bit:

I liken it to an essay which you've yet to start.

It's always a hard task just getting started and knowing what you need to write out etc. Once you've planned and know what you've got to write it just flows.

Similarly to exercising. Work out what you want to achieve, work out how YOU want to achieve it (Gym/road running/cycling..), make a schedule for the week of when and how you're going to exercise, even if it's losely structured it will give you some guidance and what you need to stick to. From my experiences, structure is KEY, otherwise you won't feel obligated to do anything.

Once you break the "back" of getting started you seemingly get into the swing of things, endorphins will start flowing and you'll feel better in yourself for having done it - it soon becomes addictive, but thats not to say that you don't need determination and will power to go along with it.

Start with your diet. In my opinion it's easily the best variable you can change with little or not extra effort that will have signifcant impacts - do this and then work towards your exercise plans.

Planning and perseverance!

Best of luck :)

I like that saying in the video; 'If you want to succeed as much as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful.' - Something along the lines of that.

Just ****ing do it.

My first thought too, there's a reason the famous Nike slogan is nigh on iconic.

Making the initial lifestyle change is the difficult part, once the results start to happen, doesn't matter what your goals are, almost no motivation is required beyond that.
