You may have seen this in the news. Short story is, officers went to arrest some guy and his dog attacks them. Not sure on the dog but it looked like a pitbull. Why the heck did they scarper off when a fellow officer was in distress? They all had batons so use them. I guess not all officers carry tasers? Apparently the one officer bitten, had his arm broken in two places and lost some fingers.

Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o9sOdTTMr8

Officers don't need to carry tazers, this is a rare event and the officer is probably more likely to be shot than bitten.
The problem is the dog owner, he should be punished severely as it was his fault. I imagine owner trained it to specifically do this.

I don't blame the dog at all. All he was doing was protecting his owner. The dog's name is poison says it all about the owner. But I don't understand why the other officers run off. If that dog took down that officer and went for his throat he would be fighting for his life right now.

Ermmm...why did they shoot the dog? there are plenty of other ways to get it "off"

This planet makes no sense.

What use is that dog if attacks everyone? It can't be re-homed, I don't think it can even go into a sanctuary. It was the risk to the Police officers, it was the sensible thing to do.

Yeah when it has one guys arm latched in it's jaws they run away instead of bashing it on the head

I don't think in that situation anyone can think clearly, most people would be in a state of shock. I imagine it's very hard to make a rational decision in these situations.

Apparently that video only shows the end of the dog attack, the officers who appear to be running and not helping had already been attacked by the dog and had injuries. Which goes some way to explain why they couldn't/didn't help.

So all 20 (or how ever many coppers it took to sort this out) of them where all "shocked" nope sorry, only the guy getting biten would be

with your logic all mental people should be dragged into the street and shot?

Of course the dog would be put down thats a given, but shot? no... thats just pure BS

If a dog attacked you in the street if it's owner managed to get it under control it would more than likely be put down.

Yep, as above that is a given, there was no reason to shoot it in the street.

Ahh I see. I can understand where they are coming from but still.

Can't blame the dog - pitbulls are natural killers and why you have to be absolutely incredibly stupid and selfish to own one (besides its illegal). I hope they throw the book at the owner and make an example of him.

The dog would have been destroyed regardless, kinda ok with them shooting it in the street myself wish they'd found a way to do the owner too while they were at it.

If a dog is trained to be like that then there is no hope for it other than to kill it. Got no time for people that have dogs like that, they are unlicensed weapons. Not the dogs fault, i got nothing against dogs.

The dog had previous as well for attacking a cyclist and other complaints from local residents too. Breakdown in the chain of communications meant the 5 cops didn't have a clue when they broke the door down.

They need to do something about the dangerous dogs law asap.

The dog bit one guy so hard IT BROKE HIS ARM... lol think about that... broke his arm, i like the guy at the end of the video "did you shoot it? man thats animal cruelty blud" ! idiots lol

As already mentioned some of them had already been bitten.
What's the suffering difference between being shot in the head and put down?
I think it's sensible to shoot a dog in a situation like this rather than risk injury, lets face it, it would have been put down anyway.

Its not even the training, they are killers through and through breed for hunting boar, etc. they are a ticking timebomb no matter how well you try to train it out of them.

Bull****. They are no more likely to attack then any other breed of dog tbh,.its the type of people who own them.....there seems to be a specific type of person who owns these dogs and they train them to fight and to do stupid stuff and dont treat them with enough respect in general.
