Dog attacks police officers

You get 10/10 for trolling.

So how is this not seen as attempting to kill?

How do you expect to get it off? I would expect someone coming out with a kitchen knife and stabbing it to death before armed police arrived.

How is that trolling?...

If anything some of you on here are "baiting" so could get considered as trolls.

Whatever anyway, it's obvious most on here think dogs have the same mental capacity as humans when it comes to right and wrongs, and the differences between biting an arm or a neck.

so it really doesn't matter anymore :) have your fun.

Not trolling, they deserve nothing imo.

There is a BIG difference in attacking and killing.

if it was attempting to kill the guy, then of course the sooner they could get it off the better, but no it was locked onto his arm and they didn't have a clue how to get it off so it would have been there untill it relaxed or ran out of energy.

so in my eyes no need for it to be shot. i guess some people just don't care and others do?

Let's leave it at that.

O please stfu, the dog could have easily got him to the ground and went after his throat.

I reckon we should get a dog like that to lock on to your arm and let it break it, and rip the skin from your arm and see how you like it while the rest of us stand back and let it run out of energy.

What type of moron are you? You sound like the guy at the end of the video that says "that's animal cruelty" lmao.
I feel sorry for the dog that it got put with such a retard owner and wasn't sufficiently trained but the police did the right thing.
Also given the surrounding investigations regarding the video it appears the council were warned several times by the public about the dog but didn't do anything and this wasn't the first time it attacked someone.

All butch terrier type dogs and large stereotypical german dogs ought to be made very expensive to own. The owner pays a yearly license fee of £650 and it must attend abidance classes once a year to get a license renewal. Anyone caught owning such a dog without a license will get a £2500 fine or 6months in prison.

Ordinary civilians will be encouraged to grass the chavs up and receive a £25 bonus if said chav gets convicted.

I know plenty of normal people who dont wear tracksuits and work for a living who own staffs/english bull terriers/rottys etc just because its their prefered breed of dog and you want to make them all suffer because of some stupid degenerates anti-social behaviour? I get where your coming from but c'mon you cant be serious. The most sensible thing to do would be to introduce a licence(a cheap one) to own any dog,and if you dont treat it properly you get the licence revoked and a fine.

Exactly. I feel for the poor blokes. Waiting about in a manic panic whilst the armed officers arrive. I would rather get hit by a car than have to endure that thing hanging off my arm or leg. The thing shouldn't even be in the country anyway, so it would have been put down even if it didn't attack anyone.

Their dog of choice, if they love it enough and not just have it as a fashion accessory, they'll pay the price. People have these dogs for a reason. Either they want to look hard and/or they want protection. I would put money on it being both at the same time.

Anything that deters people from having potentially dangerous dog is a good thing imo.

Having read through this thread I'm of the opinion that some people really do not have a clue.

When a dog such as this clamps its jaws on your arm, your in trouble. It is extremely difficult to break its grip. You would be extremely surprised at the power a relatively small dog exerts, not just with its jaws, but also with its muscles at the the front of its body - they're superb hunters and powerful.

I've got a collegue who was attacked by a Staffordshire type cross breed. He was taken to the floor and ragged - and this is a bloke who is 6' tall wearing full body armour. He still bears the scars on his forearm - and they're nasty.

I've seen people literally poleaxed by Alsatians hitting them at full pelt - you really have to stand there and see it to realise the kinetic power that dogs can unleash.

As for dealing with this particular dog - what do you suggest?

1) CS Gas? No - it doesn't work on Dogs, they're immune to it.

2) CAPTOR Spray (Pepper based) - this works on all dogs, problem is not all Forces issue it.

3) Police Baton - sure this will work - since it is a few ounces of aircraft grade steel. Only problem though is that the baton is in a pouch strapped to your side and you need to draw it and rack it out in a downward movement, quite difficult to do when you're being ragged around on the floor and are probably thinking that the dog is going to rip your throat out next.

4) Strength of numbers - would have worked if they had all drawn their Batons and struck the dog - poor doggie would probably have died (oh dear what a shame).

5) Taser - yes it would have worked if the Officer had it, problem is, due to public outcries / Government Policy, they only tend to issue these to Firearms Officers, so it takes time to get them there.

In short a difficult situation - with hindsight and sat behind a computer keyboard analysing the footage and posting on a computer forum some people can criticise and come up with cunning plans - the reality however is that when you're there, having to face up to a threat, you often don't have time to deal with the job in a perfect manner.

I just hope the Officers make a good recovery.

I bet you would have a different opinion if it was a child instead of the police officer.

For your amusement:

When i was 14 my cousin and aunt had a Rottweiler. The dog was really loyal but my uncle at the time (my aunts not good at staying with the same guy[****]) treated it a bit heavy handed to toughen the dog up. They lived in a real crap part of London Tower Hamlets... just down the road from Newham...

Anyway, long story short if my cousin pretended to cry or whimper the dog would attack who ever he pointed at... no crap.

I was a big kid im 6`5" now and well built, not too much smaller then, but the force of that dog jumping on me and biting me on attack mode for 10 seconds before he stopped it... Another 10 seconds i reckon id have been chewed up.. I was scratched up pretty bad all over my arms and hands where i was shielding myself... lol sounds funny now but at the time......

Just saw this news article and I'm

The dog must have been trained for this level of agressiveness and shame the officers involved will have life changing injuries.
I wondered what happened with police and using batons? There must have been a dozen or so spectators who could have helped out (probablyu easier said than done but stronger in numbers perhaps).

edIT: btw, what is the best thing to do if a dog does grab ahold of you like this?

Have to agree Cesar Millan (The Dog Whisperer) had a Pitbull called Daddy he was awesome.

Hes a world reknowned dog trainer though who can control dog temperament. The guy who owned that dog definitely wouldn't be that skilled when it comes to dogs as its a fine art which takes years of practice and patience lol.

at end of day a trained dangerous dog like a rotty or pitbull or similar you arnt stopping until its dead.

doesnt matter if you twenty stone a rotty would take you straight down.

if the coppers were injured or even take the coppers out of it you would kill the dog to save lives or injuries. simples.

Bottle of amonia? Eye gauge? Punch to the throat. Pitbulls have been known for fighting to their death. Continuing to fight with broken legs, they don't really feel pain.

A variant of the 'locking jaw' story is told by Tom Skeldon, Lucas County (Ohio), dog warden, who said that an impounded pit bull that had been used in fighting started "going wild," biting at the walls of the kennel. He shot the dog with a tranquilizer, and then left it for five minutes to let it pass out. When he came back the dog had indeed passed out, but not before it had leaped up and clamped its jaws on a cable used to open the door of the kennel. "Everything else was relaxed, the dog was out cold, but its jaws wouldn't let go of that cable, and he was hanging in midair," said Skeldon. "Not even a Jaguar will do that."

I don't even understand why killing the dog is an issue.

Would people have the same sympathy with the dog say had it attacked a little child?

Dogs are brilliant when trained properly.

Yeah, I really don't see any issue here - the dog had mauled 5 officers, why risk more people being injured trying to restrain it when it's just going to be put down anyway?
