The driver of a coach involved in a crash with a lorry on a motorway leaving one person dead and 39 hurt has been arrested.

It was on the news last night and I though I was hearing things but apparently the coach driver has been arrested. Any ideas why? As far as the reports make out the coach broke down on the motorway and was then hit from behind by a lorry.

I heard an eye witness account of this on the Radio & the woman said it was so foggy you couldn't see the coach until you was right on top of it, Also the Hazards & lights on the coach were very dim.

Bit confusing at the moment.

Can't see how either of those would be dangeouse driving.

He'd allready phoned it in and motorway boards where changed to incident up ahead and fog warnings where allready in place.

Unless he didn't actually park in on and shoulder? And was actually in first lane.

On suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

That's what I don't understand either, even if he didn't park it on the hard shoulder there must have been a good reason for him not to have. No-one just parks in the middle of the motorway unless you have no way of getting to the edge.

The hard shoulder was cordoned off for road works and the coach broke down in lane 1.

Easy for me to say but I'd have stuck it in gear & used the battery on the starter to move it out the way & Yes **** the cones.

One thing though I always feel for people that are caught up in these situations, Dude goes to work as normal & ends up with this over his head. :(

Chances are it was an auto, most automatic trucks can't do this, the 'box won't allow it alas, I'd hazzard a guess the bus has a similar setup.

From what I have read, the bus was broken down with all passengers still onboard for over 10 minutes prior to the colission, imo, the driver has a duty of care toward his passengers and should have got them all off!

It was sat on the carriageway (iirc the hard shoulder is closed there?) in thick fog & poor light , it amazes me the colission took that long to happen frankly!

From the photos it looks like (emphasise "looks like") the truck was travelling in lane 1 at an unspecified speed, came across an unlit obstruction, tries to move onto hard shoulder which is unavailable due to the bridge, and either swerves back into the bus or possibly glances off the concrete wall and hits the bus. Either scenario would push the bus into the centre of the carriageway. If the truck driver had swerved into lane 2 he could & would have wiped out any vehicle overtaking him. From what I can see, from the video and photos he did all he could. He put himself directly into harms way - it was his seat that took the force of the impact, I don't think I could have done the same.

If he had come up to that bus in thick fog at 30mph as the matrix says ,he wouldnt have had any chance of seeing it if it didnt have lights on,the bus looks off-white which in fog, would be nigh impossible to see until it was too late. :(
Hope he recovers soon.

& R.I.P. to the unfortunate passenger who, as I say, should have been long off the bus!

Edit:

Poor *******. R.I.P. :( - The last thing that guy expected when he started his shift that day was to not finish it. Grace of God & all that ****. Damn. :(

:( RIP poor guy.

If you look at that photo though you can just see that there's no hard shoulder at all, never mind a coned off hard shoulder where the bus and the lorry ended up. Obviously I don't know how far the vehicles moved from where the initial impact was, but I do wonder if that had something to do with it.
