I think i can in the SWTOR thread! Haha j/k. Interesting thread about someone who said he did it for a living and there are 560 of them in EA.

Source is Reddit but its originally 4chan so that counts against it already... But having said that would explain a lot of fanboi posts that defended the game before they started improving things, sometimes rabidly... And he did gave away a load of free games... And cmon this is big business...

I find his commemts about unjustifiably good reviews of swtor not having been the result of pressure humourous - 'nobody applied pressure they just started doing it themselves which is stranger.' i find that believable given the hype around the game.

For many years big budget games & movies have employed PR companies which employ people to talk positively about the game/movie so sadly no great surprise at all

I actually researched TOR and there was no legitimate defence I had for it. The best I could do is derail threads into GW2 sucks and other random nonsense

I lol'd :)

And yeah, there's a few prime candidates in our own TOR thread :)

Shills have been around for ages. They are not too difficult to spot really. Most forums on the net that have a big membership/influence and talk about any sort of consumer products have them.

I knew TOR would be a flop before I sold my copy of the pre-ordered game.

I've done the right thing, it would seem, pumping money into EA is the worst we can do if we want to stop their destruction of creative gaming.

I'm struggling to think who they could be acquiring that I'd give a damn about. Most of my favourite devs are indies these days, or skirting the mainstream at best (like Ironclad, say).

I don't care a great deal about Mojang to be honest, besides Notch would laugh in their faces. Also Mojang have only just started to publish other people's games themselves.

EA aren't the only ones that use viral marketing techniques like this, it's been going on for quite a long time now. I'm also pretty sure there's a shill or two for one such company on this very board.

It's everywhere, that's why I don't trust what other people say. Only I know the fruity goodness of the Voodoo Banshee and you should too.

Yea, considering the number of high spending consumers on this board (for hardware and software) I wouldn't be surprised if there were quite a few shills registered from marketing companies. OCUK may have a few themselves ;) . Don't presume they are noobs either... Some invest quite some time and posts before starting to do some subtle marketing.

OCUK has definitely got a few shills. People who are unreasonably positive about the smallest improvements to games, and who instantly jump on anyone who dares to post a negative opinion. Not looking at anyone in particular :p

Contrarywise, there are many, many more negative comments about games than positive. The odd shill is needed for a little balance.
