7970 or GTX 680

well at least i dont rush out and get the GTX 680 when there's other faster cards due out soon, if anyone is unwise, it's definitely you !!!

Links please and prices?

I rushed out and got my EVGA from OcUK because if I didn't, they would have none left for me. I happily play every game at full 1080P with all bells and whistles.

How does this make me unwise?

The butt hurt whinging has gotten too loud. I only come to this forum now, out of habit. And then I cringe and navigate away.

It is apparent though that people can make up their own mind, as the 680 sold out on the first weekend.

I feel sometimes, people who read this forum, skip past certain posters. If you know what I mean.

Heat and noise are no longer negatives - as its not nVidia we are talking about - didn't you get the memo?

They have always been negatives but when fermi was out some people said it didn't matter, are those same people now saying that it does because it now suites there preference of brand.

you must be aware that they're ``after market 680 cards`` due out soon, i.e the 4GB version; let alone others, plus the GTX 780 etc.

now then if i was after the 680, i still wouldn't buy now, now is still too early, i'd wait for at least the 4GB version plus all the others

what makes you unwise, is that you brought too early

What makes you unwise is that he brought nothing to the table. When infact had he bought something that would be so different.

2GB is enough for the majority, 3GB has shown to be useful for the few with highres, multi screen, 4GB NV and 6GB AMD cards on the way will be overkill outside of 3-4way GPU with multi screen and mods.

I have only seen 1 instance of 3GB on eyefinity becoming a potential issue.

But we just don't know what games are going to throw at us.

Well we can make sensible predictions.

Let's say Black Box decide to take the FBII engine and instead of offering us a game with a 2 min race between 2 mins of menus and crap they use FBII to render a world like NFSU II.

A 17gb game will quickly become a 30gb+ game.

Let's say DICE decide to knock up a BFBC3. And this time actually let us walk down the streets and paths instead of forcing us back.

Graphics are so stupidly important now. Look at the fuss BF3 caused, when in reality the single player sucks, the co op sucks, and it offers nothing new in the way of multi player over BF2 (64 player etc).

Same goes for Crysis, man. Crap game, poorly coded. Didn't stop PC sales hitting new highs. And people idiotically throwing thousands of pounds into one PC to play it on.

I disagree with this as he wanted to buy the card at launch and did so, that's up to him, I say enjoy your purchase! I've done the very same thing before, you can wait forever but I love the excitement of getting something that's just been released, I am resisting the urge to go get GTX 680 SLI at the moment as an upgrade from my 580's in SLI.

I would so love the new cards but can't justify the cost for the benefit, although I understand it would be around 30%. But at my resolution, 2560 x 1600 I haven't had any problems running the games at maximum and maintaining a decent fps.

Also it's a pain as I have mine watercooled so I would have to strip out the blocks and reattatch the coolers that came with the cards, the re-block the 680's, not worth it at the moment for me, but i SOOOOOO want them anyway!!

Wouldn't it just be easier to read a variety from reviews different sources, then make up your own mind and not care what anyone on here or any other forum says? :) Just a thought!

Take the gfx away and i think BF2 is the better game.

Apparently because I brung my 680 early, this made me unwise. I should have carried on being unable to play games like they are meant to be and waited for something else that we have no solid info about

When is the 690 due(dual card)?

Not sure.

Never played it !

I absolutely love Bad Company 2 though. That game is/was epic. Levels were so much bigger too.

I don't think BF3 looked that much better either. Good old DX11 pigging on resources.

BF3 co-op is great fun and the single player is also good for a blast.

When you take the FB2 engine and add a map like Caspian Border (Huge) and a 1.5GB card copes quite well with it, then I feel all relevant releases with said engine will be fine? Maybe I am wrong.

BF2 had even bigger levels and much more coordinated players with the help of the Commander and ingame voice coms that people actually used, it really was epic.

You're joking yes? (Greg's post)

Single player.

Press B. Now press A. Now stick one finger in your rectum and press a mystery mouse button (we're not telling you exactly which one !). Aww rats, under a train you go. Do try again and the magical button smashing game ! (tm).

Co op.

Stand in one place by a pile of ammo and shoot enemies as they come to you. DO NOT dare to wander off more than ten feet or you will get a warning to get back to the spot you were stood rooted on.

In other words, please enjoy your game of 3D Space Invaders 2011.

On the next level we provide you with a helicopter that's almost impossible to fly with a KBM. Do enjoy getting rather frustrated as you slam into the ground over and over again, before reaching for your gamepad and feeling like a console pleb.

It's a crap game, Greg. If it had been compared to a good FPS like Half Life 2 then it would have been torn apart. It offered nothing new but some shiny graphics that are almost impossible to get running smoothly.

I'm telling you mate, what constitutes a good game has been long forgotten over the past couple of years. They're taking this console slop and reviewing it and giving it high scores, when it clearly lacks in pretty much every area when compared to a good PC FPS.

Sigh....It appears I am wrong for enjoying BF3 :( There is more to the co-op than that. The chopper is easy to fly with mouse and keyboard.

HL/HL2 are great.

I have a PS3 and an Xbox360 and each platform has some very good games. Whilst I feel we sometimes get lazy ports, the PC generally has the better games.
