Wheeler Dealers New Series

I enjoy watching it despite Mikes obvious repetition in just about every episode. God only knows how many times ive seen that Corvette episode with the wonky popup headlight .

In the earlier episodes i found it interesting to note that in the drives after Ed had fixed up the car it wasn't always Mike driving in the video montage, you seen him driving a bit then it switched to an exterior shot and it was obvious it wasn't him, despite his obvious stiffy for every car Ed touches apparently.

I think the programme is OK,

They do openly state
1. That they just want to get old cars back on the road, it's not about making money..
2. The only do cars they 'want'.. hence why Mike's 'always wanted one of those'.. because he picks them..

Mike is OK, I don't slate him just because of how he does some deals which are often totallys scripted, I'm sure he's already done the deal before hand, and just has to ham it up for the camera..

And he is a used car salesman, of course he's got a whiff of BS about him... But it's just a bit of fun, them doing up old cars they fancy messing with.. sounds ideal to me!

I've got this Sky +d so yeah i saw it. Good episode i thought. Really interesting to see how bodyshops get doors like that from the brink without replacing the whole doorskin.

Ha, I enjoy the program but have to agree with most people here.

The 205 gti ep is pretty cool, masses of smoke from the car and what did it turn out to be? Gear linkages................. ok, sure.

i have no reason to believe they lie

I've seen the episodes were they get it wrong beyond all belief and cant even sell the car, let alone make a profit !!

Its not a staged or fixed like top gear is.

Hmm are you sure about that, the 205 had a gear change problem aswell, i can't remember them saying that fault caused the car to smoke?

They def made out it was the gear linkages causing the smokey engine.

From 205 forum:

We know that the person who bought it in the show was actually the researcher for the show who then sold it to Mr Blonde on here, who then sold it to Baz, and Baz sold it on a while back

From Baz

They never did sort the engine or the beam properly though as the car had replacements of both not that long after they eventually sold it to the guy i bought it from.

And that R-clip on the gear linkage still wasn't on the car when i got it...

theres always two sides to a story.

The series wouldnt get commissioned again if every car they just lied and pretended to fix the problems, but never actually did.

... in an ideal world, sure. All I can do is state the facts and my opinion :)

I'm sure I read somewhere once ages ago that all the cars are bought and sold off-camera. The buying and selling on the programme is just scripted using friends and family of the production team posing as the buyer/seller.

Also in the programme you see Mike driving his 4x4 to go and view the car, then after buying it you see him driving it back to Ed's workshop. Who is driving Mike's 4x4 back?

They have these things called 'TV crews' when making TV programmes. Video of a crew member driving the 4x4 back is hardly relevant to the programme content so why would they bother showing it.

I get the impression Wheeler Dealers is one of those programmes that is 'cool' to put down. The mechanic Ed China certainly isn't a bad mechanic (look at some of his projects) and most of the jobs done in the programme aren't exactly rocket science either.

Just watched the online piece about the Audi Quattro.

He says "audi have their brilliant straight 4, 5 pot audi lump". It's deffo a straight 5 and he says its a 5 pot too!

Clearly demonstrates he has no idea. Pass for me then.

Wow you mean he made a mistake? Clearly that never happens in real life!!!!111two

Agreed. Mike needs to be there because he represents your average man in the street. You get a teacher-pupil dynamic with Ed and Mike which is more effective than having one person continually talking to a camera.

Yeah, Mike hams it up a bit, but he's a salesman - no doubt it's what he's used to :)
