I'm considering the unthinkable - going from a 7970 to 680...

Not worth it if you've overclocked your 7970 already. Although if you wanna try 3D gaming on the BenQ 120hz screen then yeah maybe worth it if you can sell the 7970 for a decent price.

Keep the 7970. It appears if does the job easily well enough, especially considering you mention that you only play one game. So unless you can be quids in (or thereabouts) after selling I wouldn't bother.

If you're really sure you want to go along with this then I will help you out. I'll take the 7970 off your hands FREE OF CHARGE (postage not included).

How about being thankful for what you have and sending £50 to a children's charity.

Because after all is said and done you are in a position to even consider doing something as wasteful as this, but many are not.

Actually BS Dave I was right with you, swapping your 7970 for a 680 makes perfect sense for BF3... But then I read your comment about having kids. No m8, you're nuts. You need to be sectioned. Ah well, another young life snuffed out in its prime. You know that when you have kids they only end up hating you, right?

Wucked you don't know how old i am...

Andy that's for the input but this is the first really expensive card i've ever bought, and if people thought i'd made a mistake i was just gonna sell it and get the other one.

Granted it's not as dramatic as threatening to smash it up but there you go.

It's more than good enough. 680 is better at BF3 but 7970 is more than good enough already. Any gains you pay for you will not see.

I find it amazing how fickle people can be. One minute it's "7970 is the fastest GPU on earth" then "Not even worth having now and you must sell it to buy the newer one !".

Just settle down with your purchase and enjoy it. If you try to remain current then it's going to cost you, and you will get mugged off.

That's what the PC business is. Convincing some poor sod that he must have something, then having a terrible case of amnesia and telling him that what he really needed a month ago is now stupid irrelevant and unimportant and he must now replace it.

See also - Apple. They have tried to convince me so many times that I need an Ipad 2 with all of the pointless things it offers. Little do they realise I only bloody use it for watching Sky on and a mobile Skype device.

All of the things they have bolted on are irrelevant. My Ipad can run any game, even the HD ones from the marketplace. So what good will four GPU cores do me when the people coding the software make it use one? why alienate millions of people just to show them they need something else?

As I say mate, just be happy with what you have. You're a lucky person, as most on these forums can't even afford to think about getting something as desirable. Let alone buying it and then getting rid of it just to show off.

I think you might be over reacting a bit there Andy, he's not exactly stomping into oxfam HQ with a broken 7970 and asking how many children might have been saved from starvation had he donated its cost to charity instead of stamping on it. Or shoving in peoples faces how much money he has... It might sound silly, but were it me in the same situation, at an additional £50 outlay I'd at least consider swapping them too. I think most people want starvation to be a thing of the past, but a 7970 isn't the solution I'm afraid. Not unless it can magically stop government corruption and change societies general obsession with the pointless acquisition of material wealth at the cost of others.

No, its far safer to just join me and inanely criticise him over having children instead.

No it doesn't. It's not like his 7970 can't handle BF3 maxed out...

We're lucky to have you! Because I was obviously being completely serious, and it needed to be put right before some poor soul read it and believed it.

Although the 680 does still outperform the 7970 in BF3. Does that upset you?

Considering sale prices of the HD 7970 in the MM, and the price of the GTX 680 at OcUK, it's nearer £100 to upgrade.

Possibly he'd get more selling elsewhere.
