Proposals to block porn access in the UK!

Somebody think of the children!
Who actually gives a **** about their kids watching it? As long as they are of a reasonable age then I wouldn't have a care in the world.
Over protective parents are the worst thing in society at the moment. It's really the responsibility of parents to look after their network when it gets to their router, not the ISP.

Make it an opt out and i'd back it....obviously. Should be up to the parents to make sure their children aren't on the net unsupervised, not for the ISP to supervise the internet.

There will always be a work-around - Don't know why they bother >_>'

This. 9.9/10 kids know what a proxy is, then parents will want to ban them lol.
I remember in year 6 using proxies to get on miniclip and by the time I was in year 8 I could build a computer.

What possible reason is there to have this opt-out filtering and not opt-in?

I think this government is fairly anti-porn so that's probably why.

seams like a good idea, this is obviously to stop young children accidentally seeing porn, im sure some horny teen would be able to get around it.

One thing I've never really understood is why porn is such a big deal whereas violent movies don't seem to be? Murder, death and torture is fine and many parents will happily allow kids to watch 15 and 18 rated films but OMG?! IS THAT A NAKED GIRL?!?! TO THE DAILY MAIL!!!!

I think it's mostly women who care about this more than men. Probably because they are jealous :D.
You don't see many on here supporting these proposals but on mumsnet they are probably posting about how bad society is, while their kids are watching TV for 2 hours each evening after eating a McDonalds.

The fact is - If you want to watch some porn, you go watch some porn. It's not like you accidentally trip up on it :p

If a kid has the urge to watch porn he/she won't think "Ooo I can't", they'll be thinking "Ooo how?". So it's all totally pointless in the end.

The people that need to be responsible for their kids not watching porn are the parents, not the ISP.

Why just porn?

What about other 'adult' or 'explicit' content?

The porn industry is huge to be honest.

False sense of security and potentially more dangerous.

So already lazy parents allowing their kids unrestricted and unsupervised access to the Internet will now think ISPs or the government is doing their job for them, but:
a) There will be workarounds, there always are.
b) Now unsupervised kids will potentially be exposed to those more dangerous than porn, who groom and prey on the vulnerable in real life.

It will just over burden ISPs and manufacturers and increase prices.
