Chatrooms: Anyone still use them?

I remember when I was at Uni and I started exploring the 'net I used a chatroom called Firefly and met a girl called Rae, never worked out what happened to it (this was 1996 btw)

I used to use Irc for a chatroom when I was a Dj on an internet radio station, but that was like 2004/05/06 - from memory I had some very funny times, but also became addicted to just chatting **** for hours on end and wasting my life away.

I met my first girlfriend on an Avatar based chat site called DoBeDo years and years ago when I was 15. By met I mean we met in real life, saw each other for a year and neither of us was fat, hairy or old.

Not really used chat since bar the odd IRC stint on GTAForums over the years. I'm just too lazy to chat.

didn't ocuk have an IRC channel at some point??

Although I've used it a few times I've never really got to grips with it, admin commands etc.

Gosh, I had to think what that was, then I remembered. lol

ICQ still around? I remember this being fairly popular at one time.

I used to use ICQ.

What an amusing period that was.

My friend used to hunt down girls of a similar age to him and just randomly send them messages to try and hit on them.

He ended up going out with one of them, what a fog beast she was.

I think the internet has been dumbed down a lot in the last 10 years so people use stuff like facebook on their phones instead of old style chat rooms.

I used to go on irc a lot back when I traded warez, didnt really talk to anyone though except for kissing the asses of siteops. Just sit and watch the sitechan for a pre then trade it to another site and watch the race stats etc. Looking back it was a complete waste of time.

There was an efnet channel called #prankcast around that time that was really great. They would do live prank calls on people and broadcast it on shoutcast. You could send them requests and they would prank them. It was like jerky boys professional quality level of pranking sometimes, really funny.
