Hey guys , im a bit out of the loop on just what is the so called "best" smartphone right now.

My contract on a HTC Desire has just finished so i can change now.

The three phones that seem to have caught my eye so far are

Iphone 4S
Samsung Galaxy SII
HTC one X

I am not really too worried about price as i fancy treating myself but what im really wondering is , which of these is the best phone or indeed is there a better option that any of these 3 ?

As stated i currently have the Desire which is android , part of me fancies something different as im bored of it which leans me towards the 4S , but then if another phone is vastly superior i would be happy to take another android.

I really can't make up my mind, thanks for any suggestions or advice on each handset, cheers.

Nothing is really superior (overall) to the 4S, they are all very different.

I'd say try out the 4S and the One X and see what you think, only you can decide.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to reply. The unfortunate thing for me is i live in the sticks, very much in the sticks ! 130 miles to my nearest mobile phone shop infact haha !!

Im gonna have to just read about them and try one.
Its at times like these that i wish i wasn't such a country bumpkin :D

Ah okay, fair enough. Well, read all of the reviews you can find for both and then if you still can't decide, flip a coin... :p

I wouldn't go for the iphone 4s personally as I'm not a fan of apple and find the top android phones to be better specced (bigger higher res screen, faster processor, bigger & removable battery, microSD slot
etc).

If you can wait a little while the Samsung galaxy S3 is supposed to come out May 22nd and may well be excellent.

Thanks for the reply.

I had kinda ruled out the Samsung S 2 in my head so hearing that there is an S3 coming soon sounds interesting , not sure how long i want to wait though , thats the downside there , the battery on my desire is not lasting like it used to.

Is the lumia 800 considered a "top" phone or do windows phones still fall behind the competitors ?

Thanks guys !

It's a great phone and the best Windows Phone. It depends how much you like Windows Phone though, some love it and some hate it.

Thanks again Robbo.

I really am struggling to make up my mind haha.

I watched this video :-

Its a review of the one x against the 4S , they make the 4s sound like the better phone but the whole review it was the one x i kept looking at and thinking "that's a nice looking phone" !

Your coin flipping suggestion really is looking quite likely ! :D

Well, I own pretty much every 'top end' phone and I'm getting a One X.

I should have it one day next week and I'll do a mini review against the others (as honestly as possible) if you want to see what I think. I'm not being paid by anyone. :p

Personally for me I'm finding the screen on my 4s smaller and smaller everday. When I first got it at release I was thinking my s2 was a bit large but everday that passes I just look at it and think damn its small.

Overally I wouldnt look to deeply into specs apart from improtant things like the screen as now days all phones are fast as possible with the tech (e.g. quad-core) ahead of the software for it to even use it properly. What I've seen from review and a quick use of the One X is:

Better screen on the One X
Comparable speed for both the One X and 4s
UI are both very nice, althought I like stock ICS the most
Apps, still better on iOS but android has been playing catch-up and its not so bad these days
Camera, 4s is still better but the One X has a ton of amazing features to put it on level footing, the One X is also the fastest smartphone camera for now

So at the end of the day I think its really down to iOS vs Sense flavoured Android and 3.5" vs 4.7" in most other things you would be happy with either phone.

Thanks , good post full of info ! Wish i was rich enough to have both :D

Personally I am waiting out for a Windows Phone 8 for the misses, and an iPhone 5 for myself. Afaik, we are roughly in the middle of a release cycle so these current gen devices will become obsolete in the not too distant future.

I just feel that statement is just ewww.

I admit i like iphones, they have their advantages.
You choose iphone if you really do want all the apple sync goodies. Apart from that they are still really locked down for you to do anything a little more interesting.

Apart from that, android is really shining as mobile platform.
SGS2, while still having a nice camera, don't always compare MP, the actual lens makes a big difference too. Screens nice to use, lots of rdp/teamviwer use!
anyway, been able to sync a ps3 pad to the phone and plug it directly into a tv to play games such at gta. I was sold on the sgs2.

But... its getting old now, HTC One X is much newer. I'd still wait for the sgs3. Its not far off now.

It's 'ewwww'? What?

This stuff makes me laugh, it really does. Do you think most people see that as a real advantage? They honestly don't.

Yes, it's fairly old now but still very powerful. That's all I said and it was entirely correct. :)

I have an SGS2, it has better battery life than an iPhone and is much lighter (about half).

I assume you have the extended battery then because the life definitely isn't better, roughly equal at best (and usually worse in most cases). There are some battery problems with the 4S though that are causing issues.

Half the weight? Hah, no. :p

Depends what you use the phone for, the iPhone has a clear advantage just because it has a smaller screen and therefore uses less battery. If you use a lot more blacks then the SAmoled (S2) would be better, and if you use a lot more whites then the LCD screen(iPhone). Looking at most battery tests 3g talk time the S2 normally is ahead, Web iPhone is ahead and with Video it's a bit closers but I think the iPhone takes the lead.

Personally for my S2 I undervolt it and cap it at 1ghz, feel no performance hit and allows me to game for 2-3 hours some TV shows, internet and still not run out before I sleep at night. You could also get an extended battery for the S2 or a 2nd battery which means you're not limited, but with the S3 who knows, HTC has done away with removable battery.

Thanks guys for all the input , guess my options are between only the One X and iphone 4s or waiting for S3 or iphone 5 , like all tech though , there is always something better just around the corner !
