I can't seem to get my ocuk ati 6850 running stable. Lots of freezing and black screens. Safe mode works fine so am i right to assume it's likely a driver issue?

I should add that i have also upgraded the psu to an xfx 550 watt.

computer specs as follows

Dell -

Intel core 2 quad q8200 2.33 ghz 32bit
4 gig ram
ati 6850 ocuk
windows 7

Any and all suggestions most welcome!

Thanks in advance guys!

I was led to believe that wasn't always thorough? I have obviously tried the standard methods but to no avail.

Any other thoughts guys?

Just be careful with any 3rd party software for cleaning drivers. This forum is littered with bodies of people who've had to re-install Windows due to the program cleaning their Windows files as well :)

Just make sure the program you're using is legit and has been used by various different people (i.e. lots of different set ups). And then if you've satisfied yourself that all is well there follow the instructions to the letter.

I've used Driver Sweeper before (the up to date version) for my HD 6870 when I had driver issues and there wasn't an issue at all but I just worry about what is actually being deleted behind the pretty GUI hence the warning when using one of these programs.

You should be fine though :). Good luck.

That driver sweeper on Guru3D. When I uninstalled ATi drivers using their software it still left ATi services running and it's drivers causing problems with my nvidia card.

Never had the problem going from Nvidia -> ATi

I've only ever installed on top, no issues I'm aware of!
Definitely wouldn't touch driver sweeper, but I have used a microsoft program cleaner (not for drivers though), can't remember what it's called at the moment either lol

As far as I remember that really old version also removes ATI/AMD system files that came with Windows Vista/7 so when you tried installing a service pack it would fail because Windows was unable to find those critical files.

This is Guru3D's fault because they wont remove the links off their website for the outdated 2006-2009 versions and the guy who runs it won't put the latest version that works totally fine on there because it has an option to install 3rd party programs via opencandy network >> http://www.opencandy.com/faqs/ basically shows up as adware and Guru3D are totally against it.

Best place to download Driver Sweeper is here: http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html Current version: 3.2.0.

Works totally fine, I have used it switching from AMD/ATI to Nvidia Card.

I was lazy to find the right name but yes the Phyxion one is what I was talking about. Guru3D is the only one I could remember :)

I have just checked Guru3D website and even though it's still listed, their are no download links on the site anymore for that old version so all is good. :)

Yeah that really peed me off with their page being the first of the google search and yet providing no download links.

Wish google had a -1 button for them :)

I do a normal uninstall then do a driversweeper in safe mode and it always finds bits and bobs left over.

The latest versions of firefox has a rateings system of sorts where you can on how secure the site is and leave a comment if you wish.
