GeForce GTX 685 (GK110) Features 4GB 512-bit Memory, 25% Faster than GTX 680

ORB-Hardware, a source of many leaks, has posted alleged specifications of GK110 GPU. It is expected in Q3 2012 and is the fastest single-gpu card prepared by NVIDIA so far.

According to ORB, GK110 will be 20-25% faster than actual flagship model GTX 680 based on GK104 GPU. It will feature twice as much memory as GTX 680, making 4GB in total. Previous leaks suggested it may be equipped with 384-bit memory interface, but ORB sources say it will have 512-bit interface instead. A die size is estimated around the size of GF110, but it will be slightly smaller. It is known for some time, that this card will be equipped with 2304 CUDA cores (33% more than GK104). Other specs are not yet revealed. But this overview suggest that it will be surely faster by 25% than GTX 680.

Naming of GK110 is not yet confirmed, but it may be called GeForce GTX 685. NVIDIA is preparing dual-gpu card GTX 690 (based on two GK104) to be released right after AMD releases their Radeon HD 7990. We are awaiting first mid-range cards from NVIDIA GTX 670 Ti and non-Ti to be released in May. Release date of GK110 is expected around Q3 (September – October).

That's much earlier than I would have expected. If it drops 680 prices, I can see a lot of unhappy customers.

How much could they realistically justify charging over the price of a 680?

It is 6 months away which is along time in this game, maybe its coming out to rival AMD's refresh, dont know how much it will be,traditional price i think around £450

If it's 25% better than a 680 even in 6 months time I would expect it to start at £500 tbh....

Why would Nvidia lower their prices of the 680 when they can just charge more for a superior product?

It will be near £500 if not more tbh as the Ref cards have 4GB on them so that alone seems to make the price hit the roof

£100 for 25% more performance, that's pretty generous when you see the difference of price/performance for something like 580-570 and 7970-7950.
Usually the price difference vastly outweighs the performance difference but if they go that way then you end up with the 685 challenging the 690 on price but not performance...

That's just my opinion on how it will play out.

Ooh, I look forward to it.

I presume that this may be Nvidia trying to regain save after 5870 vs 480 fiasco in that they want what was supposed to be their current gen to be out earlier than AMDs next gen and still challenge it.

'20-25% more performance than 680'

Is that at stock speeds comparison?

I wonder how they got this info?

Would like to hear from drunkenmaster on this issue as he calls it 'Big Kepler' :p

I hope its true. I cant help but feel a little short changed with buying a 680. Perhaps if i didnt know that it was intended as a mid range card i'd feel better. I imagine it will cost £450 with the 680 at £380-£390.

Nvidia could quite easily just sit on the 680 and wait and wait and wait......BUT.......AMD are looming with there successor/refresh etc, this is why Nvidia cant sit back and enjoy the spoils of the 680.They need to evolve to rival AMD otherwise they could just sit back just like they did with the 580.

Considering the specs I would expect a damn sight more than 25% over a GTX680.

My only assumption is the clock speeds would have to be significantly lower to bring it within the reaches of being cooled by air alone.

These are the cards i been waiting for my next upgrade....

Am pretty sure my old SLI 580 setup will get me by for a few months longer..

The stupid low 256bit memory interface put me off the GTX 680 when they came out,
I just knew nvidia had to have something better then a 256bit memory interface GPU..

you were warned that other cards were due out soon..... but you lot told me to shut up :D

so there you go....it'll be the same price that the 680 is right now, so yes the 680 will drop in prices, but my guess is this still isn't the card to go for !

when will they stop pushing the price boat up? when people stop buying? will people ever stop buying? Its getting a bit ridiculous.

I know they are not forcing us to buy them and have a very large selection, however I wish that they would price the range more competitively instead of continuously increasing the price ceiling.

The cycles between AMD and Nvidia, taking turns at upping the price ceiling (and as the ''newest, bestest....ever! card), is starting to look more and more mediocre and less and less competitive. Their pricing seems pre-arranged and neigher company is blowing either out of the water. I even think the whole story about Nvidia building the 680 as a mid-range is a complete sham, they always built it as the ''next best'' but not ''the best'', but by pricing it as the current most expensive card, until the next most expensive arrives....and not decreasing the 680's price (and so goes for 7970), its non competitive.

There is no competition, the only competition is between fan boys and driver comparisons, where as it should be on pricing and product.......it seems like a complete collaboration.

So the next year is as follows:

7970<680<7980<685<7990<690....rinse and repeat, pricing is definitely going to stupidville

Lol this is what I am thinking. Unholy alliance in order to dupe unsuspecting naive customers!!:p
