Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 11th April 2012]

God that tackle from Balotelli was horrendous.

Also how the hell isn't Ivanovic being investigated after yesterday the thug.

606 reporting the referee and assistant didn't see the challenge from Mario in the first half. Surely the FA will punish him with at least another four game ban! Could be suspended for the rest of the season!:p

If he wasn't suspended I doubt Mancini would play him again after that game :D.

0 - Man City have failed to record a shot on target in a PL game for the first time since the away game at Arsenal last season. Repeat.

Wow 8 points clear with 6 games to go, this could actually end up being the easiest title win of the lot (in the PL era) :D

I won't be counting anything till we've seen off Wigan Wednesday night though, all it will take is a poor result there and City to beat WBA and it's back to 5 with us still to go to Eastlands

Well, I guess that's the title race over. Even if City win against Utd, I don't see Utd dropping the other 5 points in the other 5 games..

Mancini better start planning for next year :p

Haha this caller on fivelive is epic.

"I've spoken to lots of man utd fans about this, some of them even go to games" ;).

Too early to sing "Champions"? :D

How does that make it a on-horse season?

There's a point at which it becomes really obvious who is going to win the league and it's rare that point comes right at the end or goes down to the last game. United had the title wrapped up the moment City started to bottle it in the new year (as they were the only challengers) - at that point it became just a case of how big the gap will be. As good as Spurs and Newcastle have looked, they were never going to be contenders - the table is roughly the same every year at the top for a reason. It's 8 points now and given the way they're playing it'll probably be more like 11-15.

Given the last team to win the league other than United or Chelsea was us a very, very long time ago, we've had plenty of time to see how United might have an iffy start but they will always consistently get enough results to accrue a title-winning points total: they set the bar, which is usually too high for anyone else to top. When Chelsea have won the league in recent years, it's because they managed to be even more consistent than United, which is no mean feat.

City's consistency ended in the new year around the time of the ACON and their dip in form has gone on way too long for them to finish strongly. They've taken our mantle of a strong start and woeful finish. :D Does anyone really think they will win all their remaining games playing the way they have recently?

The moment United overtook them, they never looked capable of leapfrogging back. How many times in recent years have these Super Sunday type matches between big teams near the end of the season been played up as deciders by the press with weeks to go, and by the time they actually happen, the result has become irrelevant as large gap has opened up.

/DM post

Cliff Notes - United are consistent every year. City stopped being consistent weeks ago. Therefore City have no chance of winning the league this year.

Also,

Well done ManU on another title! Not your best team by a mile but every other top 4 side has been poor for most of the season. Congrats!

Hopefully we can join you in the top 4 :D

Hopefully we'll have in wrapped up by the time the derby comes round so City have to give us a guard of honour :D

I think that would be even better than actually winning it on their ground!!

I wonder if Mancini will still be in the job next season, on paper he has easily the best side in England, and better than many teams in Europe. Yet Man City are going to end this season without a trophy.

Yes you can blame injuries and suspensions(caused by poor referring sometimes) but at the end of the day, Mancini lost the battle of the managers to Fergie and it has cost City the title.

This has surely got to be one of Paul Scholes' greatest seasons hasn't it? He was out of the game for several months after his retirement than came back to help a United team that looked down and out, win the title.

As a great fan of watching English teams in Europe, I hope the owners at United don't think that just because the title is won that they don't need any investment, they need some younger midfielders to help/replace Scholes & Giggs (Who I hope stay on to help develop these young players) and maybe a new central defender(As Ferdinand and Vidic are almost never fit at the same time and Evans can be terrible at times)
