I just tried my email/password that I used to sign up for pre-purchase. It tells me my address isn't recognised unlike the beta account which just tells me there's no beta running.

The beta doesn't install though, bit odd to release a game which is just a zip file containing the files you need to run the game. Anyway it would be nice, saves downloading 12GB of stuff again.

In fact I just tried my existing GW1 account which I linked at the sign up. That one gives me the same beta not running message :D

Can you clarifty something for me. Are you saying when you register the pre-purchase you get to choose your in game character name? I thought it was just an accont name.

Surely we wont cant create our character names until we log on for the first time?

Will the pre-order/pre-purchase from the GW2 website stop at any point before release? Apart from the beta access is there any reason to buy it right now? Or can i buy it a few days before it is released and still get 3 day early start?
 
No its account name only... even then you don't get to choose it since anything you use gets a random 4 digit number after it. I guess they did this to help prevent people guessing peoples login's. I'm all for security though since my GW1 account was compromised.

You use you account name on forums (beta at least), so Username.7634 will be posting as Username.

Amazon should have it up at some point today, they're listed as an official retailer along with Zavvi and Play for the UK. If it's ~£35 there i might cancel the zavvi order and go with them instead.

That’s how I read it? On the email it says You'll use it during the Guild Wars 2 Beta Event, on the Beta Forums, and in Guild Wars 2 after launch
 
I cant see peoples usernames plus a 4 digit code as the name for all the characters they create.

I think its just for Beta purposes and then will be used in forums etc.

All the people thinking that this is for your character name, please try and think more. This is simply your account name to identify yourself. For example:

My account name: Tallanx.1234
Character 1 Name: Bob the Mighty
Character 2 Name: Some Dude

If you're on my friends list you will likely see me as either "Bob the Mighty (Tallanx)" or "Some Dude (Tallanx)" depending on which character I'm on at the time.

Now if another person on your friends list has the account name "Tallanx", then you will see me as "Bob the Mighty (Tallanx.1234)" or "Some Dude (Tallanx.1234)" and you will see the other person as "The Other Dude (Tallanx.4321)"

Now in the forums, my posts will show up as "Tallanx.1234" and the other dude will be "Tallanx.4321"

That doesn't appear to be true, taken from the GW2 FAQ :

Are Pre-Purchase benefits available for physical copies of Guild Wars 2?

Yes. If you pre-purchase a physical product through a retailer, you will receive access to our Beta Events, 3-day Headstart Access, and the Hero's Band in-game item.

There is a difference between pre-order and pre-purchase. Pre-purchase means you pay in full, up front. Pre-order works as with all other games. Only pre-purchase grants guaranteed BWE access and the three head start. Pre-order only gets one day head start.

Seriously? That would mean it's buy it from arenanet or tough luck as all 3 of the listed UK retailers don't take the money off your card until dispatch. I could live without the beta weekends or 3 day head start but that's extracting the urine.

Edit - Zavvi order history says Guild Wars 2: Pre-Purchase Standard Edition [PC]

God this is all a bit over complicated.
