Going from ADSL to ADSL2+

I guessed as much from the gist of your posts so far 
However, it's still encouraging to hear that at least one large city(?) in Devon has FTTC - you can't be that far away from getting it. I did see a Devon page from back when there was that sort-of petition for getting FTTC in one's area - no idea how that went!

Completely OT the exchange in the town I grew up in got ADSL2+ last week, the cabinets/exchange are already part way through the FTTC upgrade as well with March just gone the estimated date for FTTC to go live, it's weird, it's almost as though they rushed it all through in one go.
Well i've identified the exchange in the OP, if anyone can find any information on FTTC availability out here then they're welcome to post it up - personally I wouldn't know where to start (presumably the BT Openreach site, but most of that is another language to me).
I expect in the next 18-24 months i'll be moving anyhow, at least back into Exeter so it's hardly a problem.

Well I was thinking more that there's some kind of document somewhere that lists every exchange, with the future plans for said exchange.
I'm 90% sure Tolien linked to it once, but I can't for the life of me find it. Was I daydreaming? IIRC it was on the Openreach site somewhere.

Can you post your new line stats?
Look at the stats from your router and it will say something like:
Modulation: G.992.5 .... this is ADSL2+
If you don't know how to find the stats for your particular modem/router, then a quick GOOGLE should pull up the necessary information for you.

Well faceplate are slightly more reliable/convenient but you got filtering covered. A good rj11 lead is advisable though.
It's strange. Cat5(e) has a twisted pair in it for the sole purpose of reducing interference and preventing cross talk. In an urban environment there's a lot of radio waves/emi bouncing around so I've always found it odd that we use line filters to clean up the signal then use a cheap copper line (which is essentially an antenna) to connect it to the modem.
Belkin sell them under shielded/high-speed labels but they're really just rj11 leads with the twisted pair and basic shielding. The transparent one can be found online for ~£5-6 for 7m online but I've seen the black one in high street shops for £22 for 2m...
The difference is usually small; stabilize iffy connections/add a bit to downloads/drop 1/2db off the attenuation, but for a fiver it's worth a punt
Also higher speeds = higher frequency = more sensitive so they effect adsl2+ more than adsl, and will effect fttc more than adsl2+.Best £5 spent on my network for the past 8 years. Your mileage may vary.
