**NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 680 4GB ARRIVING NEXT WEEK - PRE-ORDER NOW!!**

Dammit - i'll never give up!!:p

no, but i'm saying the 4gb won't last that much longer ;)

My 8800GTX 768mb still plays BF3 1080p low-mid settings. If I had another 2 it would probably play high settings.

The 690 is only going to have 2gb VRAM ya nub!

no the gtx 690 has 4GB vram..... where will you ever see a dual GPU monster like this only having 2GB nowadays, no way...... so whose the idiot now :D
http://videocardz.com/nvidia/geforce-600/geforce-gtx-690

two of the 8800GTX will never play BF3 on HIGH settings and who wants to play on low to med settings anyway, the 8800GTX was dead and buried 2 years ago, i should know !!!!

Considering getting a S27A950D, Then possibly down the line getting 2 more for portrait.
Would it be best to go with a 2GB or a 4GB var? With a 120hz display id like to hit 120 fps (BF3).. Would 2 680s be needed?

Final question; How would I get on with rig in sig but with 2 680s and an OC'd 2500k on a TX750?

thanks :)

you're just about ok with that PSU, but mine needs upgrading for the GTX 690....... case cooling is fine on mine

120FPS would be the OCd 690 or maybe two 680s..... not sure, the GTX 685 will be close OCd...... dont forget the res, because i'm only on 1080p

2 for portrait?

You'll need 4gb cards and two of them. one 4GB card will be ok for three monitors, but 2'd be better

you are. 4gb = 2gb per GPU

i said three ;)

I was wondering this, will you need 2 x 4GB 680s to run 3 120Hz at a solid 120fps in games like BF3 and Metro 2033?

Could you get away with the 2GB models or is VRAM an issue?

Can you get waterblocks for the 4GB cards?

no, i'm only on 1080p so 2GB per card is fine, plus who wants three GTX 8800s, this is kind of silly isn't it, especially when you can get the same from a Single GTX 680, PLUS FINALLY... do you know much a brand new GTX 8800 costs, try over 300 quid for a decent aftermarket version

the GTX 8800 has one very good point though, it overclocks very well; especially on Rivatune and with the case side removed

with high res' VRAM becomes quite important. you could get away with 2gb, but i'd get atleast 3gb

probably will be available

yes but twin 680s will be more expensive wont they, that is if the GTX690 is around 600 quid... not sure yet we'll have to wait and see

Have you not listened to a thing we've been saying?

The downside of dual GPU's are that they are often MORE expensive.

no you've not mentioned price once, you're trying to bitch on about the Vram instead.

the chances are the 690 will be around 600 quid, but two 680s will cost over 860 quid or as much as a thousand, do the maths because it aint hard is it !!!! so which is the better buy, deffo the GTX 690.

but only if it costs around 600 to 650 quid and right now we cant be sure

finally the GTX 680 isn't the card to have in SLI, the OC 7970 is quite a lot cheaper

I would be very surprised if this were true - historically dual GPU single cards have been more expensive and downclocked versions of the single card e.g. 800mhz each and over 800 quid... with 4GB GTX 680 cards up to and over 600 I really cannot see a 690 being 600 quid, even after price drops on the 680 to maybe just under 400 for the reference models

the only rumour I've seen on pricing is "over $1000" (obamas that is :D )... whilst directly converting that in to pounds does give you 600 quid... as we've seen US pricing doesn't convert straight to pounds like that, more often than not you add on 20% for VAT plus another 10-20% just because, it works out only marginally less in pounds than it is in dollars

I've saidit many times in previous threads as has Rusty.

Why do you say the 690 will be £600?!

680's are still at their "fanboy price" so my best guess tells me it will come down, as the 580 did when AMD dropped their 6970 prices.

It makes no business sense at all for nvidia to allow the 690 to only cost 50% more than the 680. Their customers would be butthurt

I've just looked and the rumours are 850 dollars, in two places....the GTX 590 costs about 620 quid

as for this being too close in price to the 680, i dont think Nvidia give a toss, do you.

they'll maybe release the GTX 690 at 650 quid and drop the price of the gtx 680 by 100 quid, to about 450.... this resolves the problem

but between this is the GTX 685 and this is where things get very confusing indeed..... especially for after market versions, to me the prices seem way too close to each other

Dont think many 680s will shift at the price it is.

Yes exactly, we've been moaning about the prices for ages haven't we, especially the after market cards.

the 680 aint worth it, it should be 150 pounds less, why is it so pricey ? because this lower price is where the 580 is right now, so you cant put the 680 into the same price bracket can you.

graphics cards are too expensive from the base model up, the price of the 680 is governed by the less powerful cards below it, it's these cards that are causing the problems...... ie the GTX 8800 IS WAY too much at over 300 quid, should be more like 50 quid, simply because it's pretty old nowadays..... good grief, my old pc with that in it, is only worth 150 quid if i sold it, so how can one component inside be worth 300 on its own!!!!the 680 can not cost 250 quid simply because there's loads of ``old cards`` going back over the past 6 years, that are the same price as this or even more, yet way less powerful.... it is ridiculous.

you have an old ford Escort costing as much as a brand new Jag....... Nvidia are ripping us off hook line and sinker..FACT !!!!

Dont think many 680s will shift at the price it is.

PLUS in addition no they wont, because everyone knows that the GTX 685 and the 690 will be out soon, at a similar price to 600 quid, especially the 685

now then, this tells you that the 680 ``AFTER MARKET CARD`` is a waste of money, but the reference one is still ok....... OH DEAR, because that might only drop to £500, drat and double drat !

no nvidia wont lower their prices...... because it's the likes of MSI/ASUS that are screwed.... it'll be 680 = 500 quid..... 685 = 600 quid and the 690 = 600 to 700 quid

this is doing my head in ...yes, it looks like Nvidia have targeted the price of the 680 so that in the future it only needs to drop in price by 50 quid, to make way for the 685...... they probably knew this back in January.

so you see it dropping slightly now, but dont get too excited because it's about to freeze at 500 quid for the next two years ! below this you have the old 580, yea that's frozen in price too..... rip off Britain, blame Margret Thatcher
