Unless of course Toothy1911 was talking about custom watercooling! ;)

The Silver Arrow, NH-D14, Dark Rock are all within a few C of each other, get the cheapest or the one you like the look of if you have a Window.

Phanteks or Alpenföhn K2 are pretty good. But air cooling compared to water cooling isn't as good... if it was water cooling would really be rather pointless.

Not sure about the BeQuiet and from what I've seen it's not the best, but the absolute best is the Phanteks PH-TC14PE. Close second would be the Noctua NH-D14, Thermalright Silver Arrow or Alpenfohn K2, all of which have fractionally similar performance. Sig for more details. Then again, there's the Silver Arrow 2011...

yes, but its weight is a problem, i dont like that much bulk hanging off the mobo

They all have well designed and engineered mounting systems. I've been using heavy high end coolers for years as have many others and they do not cause any motherboard bending or damage when installed properly.

I've used countless coolers, and the ones that have been most detrimental to my motherboard by flexing it has been the Antec Kuhler 620 and the Zero Infinity Free Flow+. Conversely I've never had one problem with the likes of the large Noctua, Thermalright, Alpenfohn or Phanteks coolers. This includes transporting my PC to and from Uni with the Noctua installed.

The sinks are a lot lighter than they look and the retention mechanisms are excellent, can't say i've ever heard of any cooler doing any damage to a board due to weight.

Just like my antec 920 and the one in another machine haven't flexed the board at all

I'm kinda glad CPU's have heat spreaders on them now though tightening up a large cooler straight onto the cpu die was always a little scary lol.

It's pretty easy to overtighten the screws when installing the antec coolers and their stupid plastic fittings are rubbish and fragile.
