**EVO Performance Tyre Test 2012**

I would go for the hankook V12, £40 cheaper per set for the same performance.

Do you mean the performance is the same, or do you mean that you personally didn't notice an immediate difference when you went from the worn PE2's fitted on your car when you bought it to the much cheaper V12's you chose to replace them?

As thats rather two different things.

I didn't buy my car with worn PE2's, infact i've had 2 sets. I've not personally tried the V12, but know friends that have had both, and also going by reviews/tests i've seen comparing the two.

That doesn't seem strong enough to be able to categorically state the two tyres have identical performance properties?

Going on second hand opinion with tyres is bad (That means you should do your own research before listening to somebody like me, too!) because people will subconciously favour the decision they've made even if it was made for other reasons. Hankook/Falken etc get a LOT of praise - some of this is genuinely based on performance but a lot of it is because people bought them because they were cheap, didnt crash, and then began to convince themselves the performance was identical to that offered by a Continental or a Michelin (The human mind would love to beleive we bought something because it was the best not because it was cheap), which of course it isn't, something thats always supported when they are found in the same tyre tests. Whats more likely the case is that the performance offered is excellent *for the money*, which is a good reason to buy a tyre but doesn't mean it's as good as the established brands.

At 55 quid a tyre it just isn't worth messing around - buy the Michelin.

and also going by reviews/tests i've seen comparing the two.

They came out identically? Could you link to these?

They are ~£60 each from Blackcircles in my size. How do they compare?

I like to use BC as they have a fitting centre literally down the road from me and the last time I bought from camskill the tyre place my dad uses were wide. CBA with wise thick *****, just want tyres fitted.

They actually came out better in testing than the PE2 in dry/wet grip and braking. I could probably link to them if i could be bothered, but alas, i can't.

Sooooooooooo PE2 will feel nice and sharp upfront? Car feels **** the now as the tracking is out since I said Hi to a kerb.

I was very happy with the PE2, even on track it wasn't terrible, especially for a road tyre. The V12 isn't cheaper because its worse, its cheaper because its not made by a company as big as Michelin.

I've found the tyre test, was it the Evo one?

The V12 appears to come 2nd from bottom. The PE2 is 5th.

No idea, it was a year ago. I actually went with PE2 in the end because they came with the alloys i bought.

Here goes then based on the recomendations in here! Got to be better than a T1R just off 1.6mm and a 195/55/15 god knows how old Michelin on the front just now. Glad I didn't decide to bankrupt myself getting a 320i now with prices like this :)
