Help me choosea new smartphone!!

The latest are "pretty much the same" yes :p
It all depends on weather you like to 'mess' about with your phone, i.e. customise it.
If you do, then iPhone isn't really for you, unless you jailbreak it, but this will leave you behind on the latest security/bug updates.
If you just want a phone which you just want to use as it is and not worry about any of the background stuff then i would say go iPhone, but its is just personal preference.
have a play around with them in the shop.

Of course with apple you have the iCloud and iTunes match, but i find them not to integrate as well with windows as they do with mac.

But with android you have more handsets to chose from, possibly a little cheaper. however I don't find the samsungs to feel as solid as an iPhone.

The list of comparisons go on and on and on and on...........

At the end of the day, only you can chose one, and the only way to do that is to try them.

Thanks for the input lads :D

I can see that i need to find some spare time to try them in a shop ( difficult due to location ) or i literally just jump in and make do hehe :)

Quite tempted to just buy a One X outright and if i dont like i will wait until the iphone 5 is out and then renew my contract.

Maybe sounds mad but im not blessed with large amounts of patience and my desire battery is getting on my nerves , used to be brill but struggling to get 15 hours the last month or so.

My SGS2:

- no undervolting, no underclocking
- no power saving schemes enabled
- screen on max brightness
- data and wireless turned on at all times
- standard / stock battery
- game and surf for 2-3 hours a day

I get 3 days on the battery between charges. 2.3 Gingerbread, device is 6 months old.

Same thing expect the undervolting and underclocking which was mostly done as the phone does tend to heat up when I play intensive games and I didnt like that and at the end of the day I hit around 30% before I sleep, not sure how your manage to get 3 days with that usage but its amazing.

I really cant see anything being wrong with the One X expect the size, I think most off the reviews dont understand that a phone needs maybe 5 charge cycles before the battery is at its best, happen with my SGS, and my S2, cant 100% remember it with my 4s but it didnt have some issues at release.

If you think the 4.7" isn't to big then it is an amazing phone, the one thing that got me right away is the screen, its just like your seeing everything in a new light, I'm/was a huge fan of s.amoled screen but I think now I'm jumping ship to the IPS screen, its just amazing. Everything is so clear, colours are perfect, view angles are top notch, and even the blacks are almost as good as s.amoled screen.

P.S If you decide to get it make sure its the white version, the grey is just so plain and boring ruins the phone :(.

Cheers matey , ye i have to agree, its the white one that catches my eye !

HTC one X is ruling supreme over anything out or coming out in the near future.

Its decent but the leader it is not - The Nexus is level and the SGS2 is still up there overall.

The GSMArena battery test will confirm battery findings.

I think the Galaxy S 3 would count as near future and some people may prefer it, mainly because of removable storage it would seem (which it will probably have).

what makes you think it will have it?

The Galaxy Nexus doesnt and thats a freaking nexus device!

im sorry but ^^^ how the heck is the GN level with one X? the ONLY advantage it has is stock ICS literally evreything else is better on the ONE X

Having used all 3, and being an SG2 owner for 10 months or so, i can easily say the One X is a better phone than the other two. Apart from every thing else mentioned i get a better signal on my One X, faster DL speeds on both wifi and mobile and the clarity of the speech in calls seems superior.
To the op if you have used a phone with a 4" or more screen going to the 4S isnt that much fun, even if the screen dpi is higher just the small size makes it a pain to use IMO, but its still a great phone in its own apple controlled way.

C'mon guys, this isn't GD. Granted, settings > about phone > battery usages says that screen typically uses >80% battery but I stand by the fact that I get 3 days between charges. Don't like it, then too bad.

I like the HTC One X but it fell short for me on the most simple front and that's overall user experience. The launcher was very laggy compared to my Galaxy Nexus which is a shame as I would snap the One X up in a beat with its larger storage and better camera.

One thing I love about Android 4.0 is the user interface finally has a consistent theme throughout and prior to this version of Android, the likes of Froyo and Gingerbread looked very amateurish and thrown together user interface wise. The likes of HTC Sense improved on Froyo and Gingerbread but Ice Cream Sandwich really doesn't need altering and unfortunately the Sense overlay on the One X actually ruins some of that. Obviously this is all my opinion but some review sites have also said the same thing.

In terms of Android vs iPhone, I would say owning an Android device is like cutting your nose off to spite your face. I love the look of Android, I love the rate of development and Google services are very impressive. Yet all of those things come at a cost of a poorer ecosystem versus iOS which has far more good quality applications and a much better cloud implementation.

I own the Galaxy Nexus and the Asus Transformer Prime and it infuriates me that my application data does not get synced between the two devices. I.e. I can't puck up my tablet and play Angry Birds where I last got to when playing the same game on my phone.

Mekrel, search for 'Angry Birds Backup' on Appbrain. It saves your game progress which you can restore if you reformat or transfer to another device.

Cheers but Angry Birds is just an example. :p

My main point which I probably missed is having the ability to sync through Google without having to sign up to a third party service as that's extremely annoying. For example my Pulse news and Evernote data are synced by creating accounts with these services. Imagine having to create an account for every single app!

It's annoying as the Android SDK allows this and is documented here.

The Nexus isn't specced by Samsung, it's all Google.

I think it really depends on what you need, I certainly don't consider the Nexus and SGS2 to be as good because the screen is the most crucial thing and it's considerably worse on both. The people who shoot a lot of video and need removable storage will be of a different opinion. The Nexus has its fair share of shortcomings and that hasn't stopped it being declared as the best Android phone.

People are generally of the opinion that the One X puts the Nexus screen to shame and they said the same when comparing the Nexus to the Galaxy S II. Aside from the black levels the Galaxy S II screen isn't actually anything special (any longer).

It has a few software shortcomings but I'm confident they will all be ironed out with software updates, if not then HTC are stupid.

I don't want to say anything too definitive just yet as I haven't got mine, but I'll be comparing everything side by side as always. :p

When you quote impossible usage times, people are going to pull you up on it. Simple really.

It also has a non-removable battery and no SD-card slot for expanded storage, things which so many people criticised the iPhone for and yet seems to have been quickly forgotten.

This is why I'll be keeping my old tech, slow, lo res S2 for a long time :D

^ the AH-IPS type (with a good polarizer) is certainly the one to beat in 2012.

I played around with a One X and S yesterday, both are absolutely superb! (minus the typical cheap power/volume buttons from HTC :p)
Gutted they haven't combined the best of both with a 2012 sized battery and 64GB/expandable storage :(

Apple or Samsung should do that later this summer, hopefully the Sony LT29i ticks all the right boxes too.

I know this thread is a few days old now, but a few people pulled me up over my SGS2's battery levels. I'm not having a go at anyone, just defending my previous posts by displaying 3 pictures that show the conditions that my phone operates on.

1st picture shows 2d 22h, so the last charge was Wednesday evening.

2nd picture shows 8% battery after aforementioned 2d 22h.

3rd picture shows absence of a power scheme.

And you keep your brightness at 100% the entire time?

That is the only part, which I can't/don't believe (100% brightness kills the battery life especially on AMOLED screens when displaying colours like white, pink etc.) unless you had a black theme for every layout and used the "black mode" for web browsing.

EDIT:

You also forgot to screenshot the other most important thing:

How long the screen has been on for.......

All very well posting 2 days 22 hours when your screen has probably only been on for like 30 minutes or something :p

I'd like to throw the Sony Xperia S into the mix, fantastic phone. Better screen than the iPhone4S, SGS2 and Nexus.

If you mean screen time-out, then it's 1 minute. For activity, then we're looking at 8-9 hours - games, browsing, market, Times newspaper, camera, Navigon, calls combined. I'm visually impaired so I have larger fonts and max screen brightness is a must, sorry. Btw, where in the OS can I screenshot the screen activity for you? It is now on its cradle, charging though.
