Suggest me a PSU to go with this GPU

Dont skimp on the PSU, it is one of the most important components. Personally I would go for a reliable brand around 550w/600w so you have a bit of room to upgrade.

Given that I've had an out of stock notice for the xfx I'll look to doing that. What would you suggest Timmy, like I said I know Jack about power supplies, what's reliable or good etc.

Dave, it's an old dell dimension e520 so very crappy 305 watt. Currently running a 5450 silent which is probably all it will handle. I'll need to cut a hole in the back to accommodate the dual slot 6850 but happy to do that.

I wouldn't choose the Corsair builder series, just because they are Corsair doesn't mean they are of the same quality as the HX series.

Every reveiw I have read have said they are using cheap capacitors and most of them aren't solid on the 3.3v rail, google a few reveiws.

I can email you the reveiw I am currently looking at if you wish, but can't post here due to the forum rules (links to competitors).

I would go for the XFX Pro 550w , It's a rock solid psu that is based on the Seasonic platform, can't recommend it enough.

If you want to stick with your budget get the 450w version, out of stoc at OcUK mind.

Awesome delivery system with DHD next day, get an email giving a 1 hour slot for delivery and even the driver's name :)

Really looking forward to putting these in, just need to get my hands on a Dremel or suchlike as I'll need to cut a hole to accomodate the dual slot 6850

lol, what case do you have!? Maybe you should have got a new one :p

Just found the Haribo, very cool, thanks OCUK :)

mmmm

Ideally, that would be the best solution. But a new case would mean a new mobo and CPU etc too as it's a Dell Dimension E520. Horrible things to upgrade.
You don't want to know what I had to do to get the GPU to fit , it wasn't pretty by a long shot, but at least it's working.
Running SWTOR at 25 min, avg 35 FPS with all but AA at max. Loving it and think it was worth every penny.
The XFX PSU is much quieter than the stock Dell too, if a little errr.... leadier  is that a word?

Glad you got it in! Yes the Dells are very annoying with custom everything.

Can I see it? I know I probably don't want to but I'm intrigued now :p

As long as you promise not to point, laugh and generally chastise me for doing just about everything I absolutely shouldn't ;)
For instance, the CPU cooler had to lose one of the points of attachment to the motherboard, it was in the way and the GPU was more important

I'll sort some pics out later when I get home
