Crystal Palace Transmitter

That looks pretty nice although people are moaning in the comments about why London is getting an event to mark the occasion lol.

Has anyone else experienced an improved signal today? The transmission power is supposed to go up from 20kW to 200kW at some point, although I think that might be April 18th now.

Thread about it here:

The power will increase when an "old" mux closes and a "new" on is started. So most of this will be on the 18th:

Wednesday 4th April 2012

ITV-1 analogue swaps to C33. BBC TWO analogue C23 closes. Multiplex BBCA starts on C23. Multiplex 1 C25 closes.

Wednesday 18th April 2012

BBC One analogue C26 closes. ITV-1 analogue C33 closes. Channel 4 analogue C30 closes. Multiplex 2 C22 closes. Multiplex A C32 closes. Multiplex B C28 closes. Multiplex C C34 closes. Multiplex D C29 closes.

Freeview power increases - see comparison of analogue and digital signal levels below.

Multiplex SDN starts on C25. Multiplex ArqA starts on C22. Multiplex ArqB starts on C28. Multiplex D3+4 starts on C26. Multiplex Freeview HD (BBCB) starts on C30.

There will be a Crystal Palace lightshow to celebrate London's digital TV switchover at 21:15 on the 18th.

Not on analogue, BBC 1 was much worse this morning than it was yesterday.

Thanks.

My original link shows that the BBC channels are now transmitting at 200kW. Time to test freeview.

A reminder that tomorrow is stage two (final) of the digital switchover for Greater London and parts of the Home Counties. All viewers will then need to install or retune Freeview TVs and boxes (including BT Vision or Top Up TV).

Also a good reminder to go up to the park for 9:15 tomorrow night. Cheers, I'd have forgotten otherwise.

Moan: Why do they never publicise these events? There is literally NOTHING about it in the whole area

I've got no idea, I've seen nothing about it and I've been past the transmitter quite a few times in the past few weeks. I've seen lots of posters for DJ Luck and MC Neat DJing at Epsom Racecourse though so that's something I guess.

Drove past it the other day, it's looking all nice and blue with some nice spot lights! Crystal PAlace has never looked so cool! :D

It probably did between 1854 to 1936 when it housed the building that gave the area it's name to be fair. But since then, no probably not!

Yeah I've seen the pics - it did look impressive. After living in that area for 12 years it surprises me the amount of people who don't know where it got it's name from. :/

A bit on Crystal Palace:

Is the light show tonight? Or did it happen yesterday? :p

Learn to follow links and read. :p

The display, which will be visible across London, will illuminate the 219-metre-tall structure and use more than 200,000 watts – 7.5bn candlepower – the same wattage used to light the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

A beam of light representing the invisible digital TV signals will shoot up the tower and radiate out over London.

Arqiva is installing more than six tonnes of lighting equipment on the tower in readiness for the lightshow at 9.15pm on 18 April.

In addition to the public lighting display, Arqiva is hosting a special VIP event at the foot of the tower to mark the switchover. The event, hosted by Chris Evans, will feature a rare appearance from Sir David Attenborough, who is celebrating his 60th year in broadcasting and will talk about the evolution of broadcasting during his lifetime.

It's tonight at 21:15.

*has a rummage around*

I can do you a slightly stained yellowing one from the spare room but nothing velvet I'm afraid

But I guess that would be quite appropriate for the quality of the publicity of upcoming London events :D

Very cool.

Hopefully ill be able to watch all the channels without spinning my bloody aerial around now too.
