Upgrade my gaming PC

Hi,

Here is my PC spec, what would you upgrade and why?

Two points to bare in mind, I'm not interested in 3D/SLI and I play high end FPS mostly

Gigabyte UD3 (no SLI)
4GB RAM
Phenom 965 BE @ Standard with Nero-S cooler
560 GTX OC 1GB
Samsung Spin Point F1 for OS and Games
Creative Xtreme Music with Creative Megaworx 5.1
Windows 7 64
Samsung TFT 22"

What sort of budget do you have?

Likely things I'd add are an SSD, better GPU, more RAM, better cooler to overclock

Sorry it has an aftermarket cooler, updated spec list.

I dont have a budget as such, I usually buy mid range products and will just buy bits over the next couple of months if my current CPU and mobo plus RAM is still considered as ok

Is that 560 a Ti ?

A 7850 would be a nice improvement:

An SSD such as this Crucial M4 [which is fast and reliable, so I'd recommend it] will give a nice boost to boot/loading times and people who have them [including myself] would not go back It won't improve your games as such, but it does make the PC feel much faster

8GB of RAM is cheap and recommended for gaming, such as this Corsair kit

Overclocking your CPU would be good too, as thats free! though it does run fairly fast at stock

Yes it is, do I need to upgrade the GPU for 1680x1050 gaming?

Thanks for the SSD recommendation, I really want to rid my PC of mechanical drives and look at an SSD plus NAS

Not sure if my board will take 8GB? Will have to have a look

If you're happy with your gaming performance, then a new GPU isn't necessary. I'd have thought at that res a 560 would be ideal

I think it would be 1333Mhz, but considering that 1600Mhz is not much more, I'd go for it anyway

Does it just declock itself if it doesnt use the higher clock speed so that I dont have any concern other than plug and play?

Indeed, you can just plug it in and it'll work at the default speed of the motherbaord
