Goodnight sweet F10 M5

Who says that there was even another car, the unbiased people who were racing along at 180+ with him?

Totally his fault for driving like a length.

I feel the same at about 100mph! The video below was the first time I've seen such speeds on the Autobahn from a drivers perspective (posted by someone else on this forum a couple of months ago). Really highlights just how much ground you cover in a short space of time - just watching it scares me!

At 38s in that vid is where it starts to look uncomfortable for me!

Pretty sure the NSDAP never Imagined cars doing 180+mph on their motorways. Infact they were probably a lot more interested in their ability to be used by tanks.

Any way, it's plain stupid to be travelling at that speed. As has been clearly outlined. Perhaps if he had been travelling at a safer speed he might have made his destination. If I were a passenger I would have gone mad!! It's one thing driving at speed if your by yourself but in a car full of people it's massively irresponsible regardless of the lack of a speed limit!!

We've all driven at silly speeds, I've personally driven at 150mph on the autobahn, and its not pleasant tbh, your concentration levels need to be absolutely spot on as you have no room for manouvre if something goes wrrong.

What amazed me was how many people wanted me to move out of the way, and that was me at speeds of 130-140mph, scary stuff.

I'm just trying to think of the percentage survival rate of pedestrians getting hit at 185mph. Would it even be theoretically possible they could survive?

Also that 300km/hr video above is insane. Up to 150 looked alright, but after that it just seemed to have no control. Anything that would happen you have but a front row seat for. :D

That video is scary! I wouldn't want to go that fast in an E31 if the brakes are anything else like the rest of BMW's from that era. I.e not that great!!

Iv been a passenger many a time through a speed trap at 202MPH and the idea of trying to scrub off that kind of speed on a motorway because something has come up is ridiculous. Even if it's legal to do that kind of speed on the motorway that doesn't make it right or safe to do so.

Bit surprised to read that, my old e38 - which is from a similar era - had astoundingly good brakes.....

Both Mercedes and Auto Union had cars topping 250mph on Autobahns pre-war so the idea wasn't completely alien to them.

BMW safety has improved then... I remember that it was concluded that if Princess Diana was NOT in a BMW, but some other car (I forgot which cars were suggested -I believe Merc and Saab) she would not have died.

Although saying that safety has improved, "seriously injured" is pretty close to "died", so its hardly a testament to good safety.

Look at this GTR crash - 150mph ploughs through several parked cars, driver ends up with bumps and bruises:)
