Those pics! Almost bought a tear to my eye (though that's possibly more at the realisation that I'm an old git and remember it when first released) still.... Awesome awesome bit of kit

Awww, the old speccy will always have a place in my heart :D loved seeing them screen shots of some classic games.

Got mine for Crimbo at the age of 9. Gave my parents a heart attack when they came upstairs on Christmas day to find I'd taken the thing to pieces to see how it worked. Dad said he would kill me if I couldn't put it back together and get it working (luckily it did).

So many great games, I lost an entire summer playing Elite on it one year. Also had many a fight with my C64 owning mates who always took the mickey out of my poor little speccy, just because of colour clash and the sound chip on it. I loved the thing though.

I believe I was 7/8 when I got my Spectrum +2.

To this day, the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER. A computer AND a 14" portable COLOUR television for my bedroom, does not get much better than that.

They had told me that they could only afford the television one year, then the computer the year after.

Unwrapped the television and other bits and bobs, was happy as anything.

Was having breakfast when my dad brings in this long box?

I had no idea what it was.

Unwrapped it to discover a Spectrum+2, cue one very excited kid.

I love my Spectrum.

Ahh still has a very special place in my heart. Up till `83 we only had one of those Grandstand Pong machines attatched to the mammoth tv in the lounge, then my dad bought the Speccy 48k home (I was 5). Games like Knightlore, Deathchase, Harrier Attack, Manic Miner, Ant Attack, Jetpac, Wheelie to name a few, were played vigorously. There is still a big fan community making games, although if I do play Speccy games it's only the classics to be honest.

V's the C64, I always thought the 48k was more suited to be pitted against the Vic 20? Especially considering the Speccy came out around £180 vs the C64's nearly £400. Although playground rivalry at the time would dictate otherwise... :p

I was saying this to my work colleagues earlier. As if i needed something to make me feel old.. :(

I think Robocop was my fav game ever.. Or maybe Shadow Warriors or Batman... All fantastic Ocean games.

I had a ZX81, a speccy 48K that a friend gave me when it broke and i got another mate to fix it and then one xmas got a +2. My friend gave me a tape with a load of games on and the 3 i can remember most were Cobra (As in the film) Alien8 and Glass.. :)

When it seemed that everyone else was buying a Speccy (I had even bought the ZX81 and the ZX80 previously) I decided to buy an Oric :(
Eventually I had a Spectrum 48k, then the plus 2 and plus 3, amongst other 8bit machines.

The nostalgia is strong in this one.

Advanced Pinball Simulator... Dodododo dodododo dodododo...

I remember browsing through games at the local shop - £2.99 for Thomas The Tank Engine (admittedly, an awesome game even in hindsight).
I had a drawer full of tapes, never did find out where they went :(

Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom was the first computer game I ever played:

1st computer was a speccy 48k with the plastic keys(rubber keyed one was rubbish) When I 1st got it my Dad and I would play Booty(best game ever) on it together on the big telly of an evening.:)

Think some of my happiest days as a kid were when on my Speccy with its rubber keys and when I opened that black box and finally figured out how to use that red lenslock and played Elite for the first time ... well that's a moment that has rarely been repeated in any game since. My first game was Penetrator and then Horace and the Spiders.
