UEFA Champions League/Europa League 24/25/26 April *** Spoilers ***

Tom, Mario Gomez is one of the most consistent and prolific scorers over the past few seasons, you can't doubt his ability.

Based on the two games against Madrid yes I can!! Like I said earlier in the thread how he's scored 40 goals I'll never know.

Ribery is like Ibra for me. Whenever I actually see him play it's a let down, even if he's been great when I've not watched him.

I'll root for Chelsea just because it's been a while since we got one over the Germans, and although you'd fancy Bayern, it's a one-off game and football can be weird. They might have all the ball but lose 0-1 to some uber jammy set piece goal or Drogba just bulldozing his way into the box, then parking the bus like they did against Barca.

Ribery has had an excellent season with goals well into double figures and 20+ assists, his performance against RM in Munich was superb and he's generally considered to have had his best season to date. Gomez has scored 40 goals... 39 last season. Yeah, those stats are shockingly bad.

I can only base my opinion on what I've seen, if you watch German football week in week out then fair play to you and you obviously know the players better than I do but alas I do disagree that Ribery played well last week I thought he was only marginally better than he was tonight

Have you never seen a great game between 2 mid-table teams? It happens every week in the Premier League. What we actually have here though are two talented teams, both in great form in Europe, both considered to be one of the best teams in their respective leagues. It certainly isn't the quality of the two teams that makes a game dull. It will more likely to be the pressure of the occasion and the tactics of the managers.

I didn't say the game will be dull, despite the lack of quality in the second half tonight that second half wasn't dull it just lacked quality.

I could watch Rooney perform poorly for two games and then say he's ****. Does that make me right?

It's not about right and wrong is it? It's about giving an opinion, I can only base my opinion on what I've seen, am I not allowed to do that?

Exactly, but shush you're not allowed to say anything unless you've seen them 30+ times ;)

You know, Messi has a bad game last night you know, does that make him **** too?

Ribery has 14 assists in all competitions, not bad, but not 20+ either.

Where you getting that figure from? Are you sure it includes CL as well because that sounds more like domestic only (even then it seems low).
I can't seem to find a figure on the Official BM website, but pretty much everywhere else suggests more than 14. However I'll admit the number ranges from about 15 - 23

How can stats be that far apart :p

You've watched an absolute World Class striker play against one of the best teams in Europe, twice, and that's all you have to go on yet apparently he is rubbish. Okay. :)

Doesn't stop people from saying the same about someone like Ibrahimovic either, I suppose the difference between them is Gomez actually steps up in big CL matches most of the time.

I just don't understand how somebody can watch a player two times and then decide they are ****, despite his ridiculous goalscoring record for the past several years.

Have to agree and the player I've gotten used to been told is **** like I said Ibrahimovic who I still think is one of the best players in the world.

Many people however will go off what they've seen and nothing else as some people may have only seen these players in crucial Champions League matches which is fair enough which is why a reputation is usually enhanced at performing at this level.

Exactly why someone like Ibrahimovic doesn't get the same respect he does in the peninsula and someone like Kaka (when he was at Milan) actually did. However for the most part players written off have usually done the business in matches people have missed wasn't it the last 16 where Gomez scored 4 goals in a match, to be fair to his detractors though he did miss some guilt edged chances but it doesn't take away from the fact he's had a fantastic season and scored the crucial goal in the 1st leg and won the penalty that got them to a penalty shootout tonight.

Once again are we all to be devoid of opinion unless we've seen something the amount of times which satisfies you? I've given my opinion on what I've seen of the player, sorry if that upsets you :o

what are people smoking? Ribbery played **** tonight

This^^ I thought Ribery and Robben were pretty poor, and were greedy sometimes trying to take on a few people. Bayern should have put the tie to bed with a few opportunities that popped up for gomez but you can always count on the Germans to win in penalties i suppose.

Really dissapointed that Real didn't win tonight, not taking anything away from Bayern they fully deserved it over the 2 legs. I'm a big Mourinho fan but what I can't understand is why the stantard of defence is so poor in his team. The space both teams gave in midfield was huge in the 1st half but addressed in the 2nd half, but Madrids defensive players don't fill me with confidents.

Also was it just me but did Mourinho look like he had no confidence when it came to penalties. Let's face it he will come back harder next season with what ever new signing he makes, unless he leaves or gets the sack which I don't think will happen.

Sometimes the luck is with you and sometimes it isn't. I honestly don't think Mourinho leaves Madrid until they win the Champions League nor will they want to let him go if he keeps up his lack of press attention rather than his controversial approach for his 1st season.

I don't blame him for thinking it was over that Ronaldo PK set up the rest of the shootout if I'm being honest what a save it was from the keeper (no choking involved from Ronaldo or Kaka) both were on target and decent penalty kicks. Bayern let them back into it only for that idiot Ramos to send it to the moon to say I was gutted was an understatement I'm also a bit of a Mourinho fanboy (Inter fan and all that)

Am I the only person who thinks Gomez had a decent gaming playing up top on his own, against two of arguably the biggest and strongest centre backs in Europe? He worked hard to the end, fair play to him.

Ribery is a **** though, him and Dani Alves are a disgrace, every slight touch and they are rolling around like they have just taken an arrow to the knee.
