Guild Wars 2

Erm, and WoW really 'looks' any better does it? Seriously do you even think before posting. Kung Fu pandas FTW!

To me it does, yes. Infinitely.

Are you really going to start trying to insult me considering the warnings given earlier in the thread?

It's hardly my fault you're a raving Guild Wars fanboy. It will get compared to WoW. Deal with it.

Anyone else getting connection issues to GW2 Guru? Says it could be related to cookies but I've tried two different reset browsers? Can't connect to the site for info at all.

No idea mate, also on a side note, i take back what i said earlier about arguing etc. I now sympathise and hope you accept my apology >.<

And on some levels the GW2 staff are inviting the comparison - however ill-fated - because they are saying in the publicity releases and hype-material that they "want GW2 to compete with WoW" or they want "GW2 to take a chunk out of WoW" and words to that effect. I read an article only yesterday with a developer interview saying just that. Bhavv you might want to go get some blood pressure medication because following this weekend I think you're going to be overwhelmed :p

You mean that the author of the article was saying that, not arenanet.

But of course Arenanet are inviting the competition, and have been doing since day one.

'If you love MMOs, you will want to check out GW2'.

Don't know about that mate, normally when I'm reading an interview and it includes quotes I assume it's quoting the interviewee

Speaking of 'WoW-killer', Guild Wars 2 used to be crowned with that title even when the game hasn't come out yet. As for that slogan, O'Brien expressed his own opinion "nothing is going to kill WoW other than WoW. Games just don't die. But do gamers think we've seen the most popular online game we've ever seen and we'll never see something more popular than that? I don't think so. One MMO has been on the top of the heap for seven years now, but there's been a progression in the industry for other games being able to attract more and more players. And we're set to climb to the top."

+1

Sent you a pm on your site:)

Cheers, any ocuker (well bar a very few) are more than welcome to join us, I can easily say 90% of the people who joined from here, were exactly the people that we looking for and that guilds need to grow and be social/successful, (note I pout social first as that well for me is what makes guilds successful. I can in fact up that to 95%.

I've spent thousands of pounds at OCUK over the years and I've got to be honest I've never encountered such a suffocating and puritanical forum atmosphere. Doubt I'll be buying my next rig from such a pedantic lot.

I would suggest that much like other mmo's, there are poeple who've devoted thousands of hours into the first game, and hope to do so in the second, so are very...particular about aspects of the game. TBH, this behaviour can be found in any community; there'll always be aspects in a game which can be changed for improvement, but aren't because a loud minority of the fanbase will implode in rage should you even touch the quirks in the system.

Catering for hard-core people means different things to different people. To me, that means that the explorable dungeon/elite events have a high execution barrier to complete and you need to be constantly alert even with trash mobs. To a hardcore raider, it means ample raids with enough gear to go for for a while and some interesting boss mechanics, whereas trash mobs are a negligible thing.

I think you would agree that to have a completely hardcore game would perhaps crash and burn when the development costs are most likely pretty damn high.

I think GW2 honestly has to hit a balance. People need some reason, PvE wise (WvW if executed well is self sustaining) to keep PvE-ing at a top tier level, in addition to difficulty; perhaps the side-grade system of gear they've hinted at or the cosmetic side of things will be enough to keep people going.

On the PvP side of things, honestly, for me, either the system must emphasize an EVE like system (i.e an interceptor is not necessarily worse than a Battleship, they fill different roles and do different things; as a player grows in skill points, versatility increases) or a system much like GW2's with normalised gear, level etc. I jumped ship completely to Dota2 from LoL once I got in, not just because of the gameplay differences, but also because it removed any trace of something you've done before the match giving you an advantage over someone of equal skill, but hasn't got that same advatange (e.g unlocking the masteries tree). I think people would graviate to pvp with a heavier emphasis on skill and opportunism rather than a gear-based affair, purely because there's more bragging rights to beating someone.
