Brit who bought a cut-price island in the Seychelles 50 years ago... and still lives

I remember reading a few years ago about a London bus driver who saved £10k and moved him and his family to the Maldives where they now spend all day lounging around on beaches etc apparently only needs to work a night a week in a hotel to keep food on the table.

My plan is to wait until it's too late to do such a thing and then regret my entire life from then on.

Not cheap by any means!

True but not as much as you think. Accounting for inflation £8,000 in 1962 has about the same buying power as £60,000 today so still quite a bargain!

Damn, shouldn't have used just inflation..........

Current data is only available till 2010. In 2010, the relative worth of £8000 0s 0d from 1962 is:

£133,000.00
using the retail price index

£131,000.00
using the GDP deflator

£297,000.00
using the average earnings

£348,000.00
using the per capita GDP

£406,000.00
using the share of GDP

So he was relative wealthy in 1962 to buy the island anyway. Still a bargain and probably worth what £20m now?

Why have they shopped him into this photo?

Because like I said.

Fake.

It's a trap!

Island has a hatch with a room with a computer from the 60s where he has to input a certain number combination before the countdown ends else we all die.

Desmond the turtoise knows all too well.
