Looking for a case to hold at least 9 hdds
Currently looking at Fractal Design Define XL
Any more with 9+ hdd spaces i should be looking at?
Just for use as a HTPC/SERVER no humongous gfx to cool etc :)

I currently have a cheapo cooler master i think, has a external port for 1 sata hdd,8 hdds are squeezed into this case and it is like a nest of snakes in there

Have thought about an external Esata encloser like Startech 4 Bay External Hard Drive Array Storage Tower – eSATA USB 2.0 Enclosure

Thoughts please :)

Got the Haf 932 for my main rig,not enough hdd trays for this project though,i suppose i could get one of the 5.25 bay converters for another 4 drives. That would still only get up to 9 though ,i would like a few spare for the future as the existing htpc box has 8 in atm

Yup, HTPC/Server, for 9 HDDs, best shout is the Design Define XL.

There are other ways of getting around this (smaller cases such as 550D or R3 with optical drive adaptors_, but I'd still go with the XL as it has more room for future expansion.

Slight glitch the space under the TV is only 510 mm.Looks like the Design Define XL(560 mm) is a bit on the tall side,if i get this it will not fit under and will stick out a ways :(.
Even so this one is looking best for price/features for me
Will have a look at the Lian Li cases too :)
Edit : Just had a quick look at the Lian Li cases :eek:Prices, not in my price range unfortunately and they were all too big for my situation. Thanks for the suggestion though

So basically we're looking for a small case with massive HDD capacity?

Bitfenix Shinobi has 8 + 3 drive bays.
Fractal R3 has 8 + 2 Drive bays

Presuming you need an optical drive, the R3 could therefore do 9, and the Shinobi 10.

This does exist though:

I can't guarantee, because I don't know what the space is like in the bottom of either of those cases, but if you were willing to get the drill out, you could install that in the bottom of either the Fractal or the Shinobi for extra space.

Also, if you don't need an Optical drive (which I'm presuming you do as you said HTPC usage), you can get 3 ODD bays to 4 HDD adaptors.

Thanks King Damager for more suggestions :)
I have got one of those bay converters for 4 extra hdd, shame i do not have enough room in my existing case to use it,has a 120 mm fan on it too
The other 2 cases you mentioned i have had a look at and for the money don`t look that tempting(not enough spaces to be worth upgradeing).
Although the Bitfenix Shinobi comes close. The Fractal Design xl is looking favourite even with the size issue, like the sideway mounting hdd ,easier to change add drives
Arrggghhhh decisions :(:)

To be honest, it might be worth just upgrading the HDDs in your current server to a larger size instead?

Prices still haven't settled post flooding, but 2TBs aren't too bad price wise at the moment. I think they're starting to get back to being close to £40/tb

:) most of the drives are 2TB in size
NZXT Tempest 210

doesn`t look too bad for the price either

silverstone TJ11

Lian li z70
Lian Li P80N ( i think)
Cosmos S2

ignore me didn't see the small case part ^^

Antec 1200 has 9 3.5 bays it's smaller but not small.

Looks like I am little late here, but thought I should get the word out that SilverStone's TJ04-E and KL04 can natively accommodate up to 9 HDDs plus 6 SSDs and 4 5.25" drive. From what we know, they are the smallest ATX cases to fit that many drives.

OCUK's own KL04 page:

As a comparison, the size of the cases:

Fractal Design Define XL - 72.9 liters
SilverStone TJ04-E & KL04 - 51.2 liters
