Tourists Banned From Dutch Cannabis Cafes

Anyone who goes there for the sole purpouse to smoke drugs legally has got to be pretty sad and im sure that sort of person will not be missed by the dutch.

How is it sad? Some would argue that you spending your free time reading about technology and answering questions about a mobile phone "Speak to me for any iPhone technical question " as per your signature, sad.

There is a difference between reading about technology, and travelling several hundreds of miles to smoke cannabis which you can quite easily do here.

There's a big difference between being holed up in dark room smoking weed from unknown origins, and going on holiday to Amsterdam to sample a large variety of strains while sitting in the sun looking out across a beautiful city. Or so I imagine, not that i smoke weed regularly or have been to Amsterdam.

It's just as sad as travelling hundreds of miles to sit on a beach in the maldives when you can just as easily sunbathe at Weston-Super-Mare.

There is the possiblilty that the ban could be challanged as far as EU residents go, single market and all that.

Though the most sensible solution would be to decriminalise it across Europe instead and start treating drug addicts as people with an illness or addiction that need treating rather than criminals that need prosecuting.

People go to Amsterdam and buy weed because they can do so without getting in trouble with the police. If they want to go there and buy from a black market, they could just stay in the UK and do that. I really can't see drug tourists going over there to buy weed, if it's as illegal as here for them to do so!

Well it's always been illegal to grow... But I would imagine it would be more lax over there, meaning better bud. But since lots of places are at the place Amsterdam might end up (decriminalisation), they'll likely just go elsewhere, such as Portugal or Spain.

Better quality and more selection. It's like saying it's sad to go to Italy or France for the food... retarded.

This is basically not going to happen, the Ruling CD party are about to lose power and have no chance of getting back in, other parties have siad they will bin the idea, even if that doesn't happen then there are still challenges being made on discrimination between EU citizens

That's good to know, as this seems like a rule for a problem that doesnt exist

Last ditch attempt for the Ruling party to gain votes.

Believe it or not holland actually has a lot of right wing conservative types, something I was not aware of untill I lived in holland, it is a remarkably polarized country.

If there's one thing I've noticed about the Dutch since being introduced to them in recent years, it's that casual racism really is rampant. They don't seem to mean it in any malicious way, though, as a caveat!

Can't say I noticed that but it was 14 years ago I lived there.

What boggled me was how small a lot of the baths were, just seemed odd because a lot of the men were pretty big chaps!

Cups too, unless my mind is starting to play tricks!

My understanding is that the same (current at least) de-criminalisation applies to growing the in the Netherlands, if you are growing 99 plants or less, and the end market is a "coffee" shop. It's still technically illegal of course, just ignored. There is no difference in quality between their stuff and the stuff grown here in the UK.

In holland (since amended in april 2011) you are allowed to grow up to 5 personal plants, regardless of yield. However, if you recieve an offical visit you are expected to to hand them over, if asked. (without being charge with anything tho')

This is akin to how long is a piece of string, too many factors for both sides of the argument. Any strain grown under perfect conditions will be the same regardless of where it is grown, but yeah.

^^ Like most cities. Except, well you know, there is an extra reason to go to Holland. Take that away and less folk will go there. How hard is that to understand?
