the shopping basket extension is easy to use once it set up.

1st save this page

as a favorite.

now when u have something in the shopping basket, go to your shopping basket page then go to favorites and click on that page. it will give you a load of links in a box. just copy and paste all the text to post it on the forum.

I havent heard good reviews about asrock thats why i went for msi.
trying to get that link to work.

If you like MSI, that's a good choice of motherboard. In fact I have one myself!

I'd suggest this XFX850W PSU, suggested by Hono earlier. As it's cheaper and gets a very good review, see here.

That psu looks good too, I am completely dumbstruck by it all - it seems like too much choice. I take it the xfx has allcables I need,, I didnt reaise hdd,gpu allhad their own power supply I thought they were powered by connectors to motherboard.
A bit confused by all of this but getting there.

That XFX will have plenty of connectors yes. Its modular, so you only connect the ones you need [with the exception of a few already connected]. These videos might help with building

They're quite long, but you can always skip bits you understand.

You dont need the thermal paste in your basket. THe gelid cooler comes with a syringe of it

I have just measured my case and the gelid cooler will be too high, is there another slimmer one?
How do water coolers work? where does the radiator go? It is just a thought.

I have kept the stock item for now just to get it running but will change soon I think. Any ideas what my cpu temp should be:an i7 2700 3.5 chip? The msi board will overclock if I want but shouild I run it standard for a bit?

You might be able to get a small OC with the stock cooler, but I'd wait until you get a better cooler.

Not sure on temps. What are you getting under full load?

According to cpuid intel core package 49deg on idle. how should i load up the cpu?
very new to all this - sorry

Don't worry

Download Prime95 or Intel Burn Test and see what the temperature is after running one for a while.

That sounds a little hot for idle, you might need to reseat it - but check load temperatures first. You want to keep below 70 ideally.

I managd to hit 90 eg with an av scan but it was only for a second or two.
