Guild Wars 2

I took it up with them & said that NCSoft pretty much disagree with most of what they are saying.

So I pointed them to a discussion thread on the GW2 forums that a few people are concerned they have had access to the beta but are in the wrong region.

NCSoft said that if that happens then it's the suppliers fault, not NCSoft as they've not supplied the wrong region keys to the wrong regions.

CJS have now said they have only supplied EU keys, but I sent in a support ticket to get them to check.

Well they offered me a refund then when I accepted they then sent me a generic email with a link to the GW2 forums where a mod has said they will sort the issue, seems like they are clinging to that post with their life so they don't have to do refunds. I have now started a paypal dispute, not hopeful but will post back when they reply.

I play WoW and I played and liked GW2... so does this disqualify me from being able to tell anyone what I thought GW2 didn't do so well on, or even worse yet, what I think WoW does better?

If you try and argue your points by saying 'WoW had something GW2 doesnt have' then yes because GW2 is not WoW, and most fans of the game dont want it to be anything like WoW.

Both the games are meant to be different, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.

Regarding the majority of negatives I see being raised about GW2, heres a newsflash - GW1 was exactly the same and had these same features / lack of features.

The same people complaining now werent complaining when GW1 didnt have shift / ctrl key binding, and that melee was far weaker than ranged in PVE.

Well CJS keys will not accept that the key they provided is wrong. Trying to fight for a refund. I have now opened up a dispute case in paypal.

I've requested a refund via email and will open a dispute if they dont offer it.

They dont even get their keys from arenanet ffs, and have no clue at all about the region locking, but they claim that their keys are from arenanet, and that there is only one region unlocked key. So much bull, I want it refunded now and then I'll buy my key directly through Arenanet.

I like WoW, I also like GW2. I'm odd :(

When people were buying from CJS did you guys not think at the time this is a dodgy site? I've ordered from them before and at the time I knew they were dodgy. They weren't listed as re-seller by Anet either no?

Friday was a bad experience to try and get on the game but when it calmed down it was a great gaming experience.

I enjoyed the events and the PVP, I'm saving the personal story and the dungeons for release.

The design of the world is a work of art, I can see this game being very sucessful when it has had some fixes.

The most satisfying part of the weekend was critting a guy for 11k

But you are implying that it does.

Anyways it sounds that the only issue is that gw2 needs to tone down the visual and sound effects to make it easier to melee

So why not say that at the start rather than arguing. This is a valid point that should be discussed rather than descending down to bhavvs level.

We should have a separate praise only thread for bhavv to inhabit as this thread is a good discussion interspersed with bhavv trying to shout down and discredit anyone discussing rather than praising.

CJS did look dodgy but the review and the referrals from here I felt okay to go with them. The first key I was sold didn't work and now its turns out its a US key. Not got round to sorting it yet. First and last time I use them.

Are people having to prove their key is US or something? I didn't get the gems etc.

They keep emailing me as if my problem was the log-in pre-reserve issue, which it patently isn't. They're not listening. One response in every 3 I'll get a personalized message promising something hopeful... and the rest of the time I'll get a blanket copy+paste response which invalidates all of their earlier progress with my ticket. Very frustrating and completely unprofessional. Will be a challenge to get this refund, I can tell...

Bhavv, the operative distinction you are forgetting with 'previous WoW players' is that just because they have also played WoW, it doesn't necessarily logically follow that they are expecting GW2 to copy or imitate WoW. This is a logical fallacy. There is no syllogism here, which is what you are looking for. 'If player has played WoW and player plays GW2, player wants GW2 to be like WoW'. No, incorrect. It is merely past experience of another MMO. It does not mean they are incapable or disqualified from having negative, yet also well-reasoned comments about GW2! This is fanboyism to the worst degree: assuming that because someone has played a game, they somehow intrinsically represent it and embody it. Just because I've watched Arsenal play football on the television a few times, doesn't mean I have a season ticket and can't support someone else.

Never had a problem with them before. I just am waiting on confirmation that the key is actually an EU one.

CJS say they are, but I'm waiting on NCSoft to confirm it.

The Gems problem is just a bug apparently according to the Devs, but I think it just put doubt in peoples minds & most are seeking clarification before taking action. Others are just requesting a refund, without checking.
I'd rather check 1st and save any hassle of trying to get a refund/change serial code on my account.

This. I've posted a thread on the official forums regarding CJS key to get answers for everything:

I really thought the Beta was until 8pm tonight. It was made worse by me loggng onto GW2 forum to see a popup telling me to prepare for the final beta event tonight.. i guess they forgot to remove it.

Then there was lots of others on the forum saying they couldnt log in. :D

The funny thing is i contact support to try fix the login problems and they tell me how to fix it when really they shouldve told me there is no beta running.

oh well. I missed the final event. :(

Shadow Behemoth is a poor example because he isnt attackable from melee range for large portions of the fight. Did you play a melee character for any extent over the weekend?

Oh wow, a guru post complaining about WoW players, how new and original.

The problems with melee in the beta are that:

1. Particle effects make it impossible to see enemy animations.
2. Dynamic event scaling leads to you being one shot.
3. Even after stacking avoidance, rolling every hit, tunneling melee damage and never dying you are no more effective than ranged players alt tabbing to their emails, probably less so because of your erratic movement.
4. The proximity based aggro is doing squishy melee classes no favors.

Lastly the FoV during the shadow behemoth is made bigger so you can see the boss, so that footage isnt representative of a typical FoV, never mind being the smallest character type in the beta.

I played a thief up to level 6.

The first boss encounter on the thief, and the shadow behemoth on my elly is all I did.

One weekend simply isnt enough to gather all the information required to make the judgements that people have been making.

It very much is when the problems are so obvious, glaring, and easily fixable.

Honestly, downscale the effects, upscale the camera zoom and FOV.

Then melee classes can at least get a good enough view to assess their problems.

I played a warrior to level 10, a thief to 6 and an emelentalist to 8.

When I was playing the warrior I found it great fun, but found myself, due to lag i think, not beng able to dodge out the way in time or the dodge mechanic just not working orrectly. I ended up using a rifle most of the time, which saddened me a lot.

Against dynamic event mobs, i would leap in, hit them with my sword, and while the animation for #2 swing is going i would get 1-2 shotted.

I agree, a lot of players will not be playing it 'correctly' but their is still an underlying issue. Oh and the particle affects are ludicrous if not very pretty :)

1) Valid complaint ... does it really need to be mentioned 100,000,000 more times on this forum though?

2) That applies to every character class

3) You cant melee everything. Dont ever expect to.

4) Here you really need to learn to play and pull mobs one at a time with your ranged weapon before fighting them. I assume that this is only an issue when you wield nothing but melee weapons, and simply charge into every enemy you see without careful pulling.

And that is leeroying.
