Dirt Showdown - Destruction

Codies have confirmed DiRT 4 will be even more rally based, Showdown is just a new 'experiment' and extra for the series (like how Shift took Need For Speed in a different direction)

look how their 'more rally based' DiRT 3 turned out

just hope you dont get any trouble with their game when you get it as codemasters are the worst in the industry for help with game no money from me ever again :p

Codemaster generally do driving games quite well, and whilst this latest release is largely an arcade game, I really am looking forwards to this! Loved Dirt2, 3 and destruction derby, so this looks great.

I LOVED Dirt 2 and got Dirt 3 because of that, but it's got so much "buy now" integrated into the game it's like loading up a shopping centre and the most of the DLC content(and more) was in Dirt 2 out of the box. If anyone has seen Dirt 3 Complete for sale anywhere else than an indian eBay seller, do tell.

I'll be very very wary of anything from Codemasters in the future.

Destruction derby… What a game that was back in the day. Wasted many an hour playing it, the one racing game where smashing into your opponents was a requirement.

Codemasters seemed to have dropped the ball lately with their racing titles. TOCA 1 & 2, Race Driver 3 and GRID were all excellent as was CMR 1 & 2, but recently, F1 2010, F1 2011 and Dirt have all been ok but nothing like their early racing titles.

Dirt 3 did have a lot more rally but its nothing like CMR. Anyone who remembers TOCA 2, that was perhaps one of the finest racing games ever to be released back then, will also remember codemasters did put out a decent racer back then.

Dirt 3 was ok, Dirt 2 was OTT and ok for fun but nothing like Dirt and Dirt was truthfully best in the series but still nothing compared to CMR or TOCA 1 or 2.

Yeah I agree Toca 1/2 was amazing. Either I was bad at racing games back then (I was like 10/11) but I think even the ai gave you some challenge. CMR 1-3 games were a blast as well (back when I was still using far camera view :))

I actually like Dirt 2 and F1 games, maybe because I love F1 but it defiantly has nothing on the memories I have of those games. Still I have high hopes for Dirt 4 and F1 2012, since they have decided to concentrate on racing games now instead of branching out.

All the games branded CMR were great. Even the PSP versions still managed to keep hold of the core feeling of being a great racing game. DiRT (and then 2 and 3) went in a very different direction. It was refreshing and new when they started, but its got a bit generic now. DiRT has the full Pikes Peak and things in it, while 2 and 3 seemed to just put you on the same generic stadium based track or rally track over and over again. Building 1 short rally stage, splitting it into 2 halves, and then running each one in both directions and trying to fool us into thinking that meant there were 6 stages was just cheeky. The original CMR's used to have up to 10 stages on each of 8 or so different rallies!

I hope DiRT 4 turns it around and brings back some proper long (more than 2 minutes) stage based rallying, and Super Specials! Does anyone remember RallySport Challenge 1 and 2 on the Xbox?

Not sure Showdown is going to provide £30 (or £40 on consoles) worth of gaming though....

I would not shout that too loud in the F1 2011 thread if I were you.

Yeah, but F1 games are generally quite dull so it doesn't matter! Probably better not shout that too loud there either, but if there is a die hard F1 fan out there, I very much doubt they will be looking here! ;)

Just had a quick go and it's a bit meh... Hopefully the full game will have more. No incar view is a bit rubbish. I got it free with my GPU so cannot complain to much..

3GB for that **** game looks poor yet performance is down on Dirt2 and 3, will be giving this a miss. As for the Demo gameplay, borrrrring.

Oh wow, just got the demo and it is **** poor. Seriously don't even bother, unless I am doing something wrong the demo is literally 1 map, going round in like a figure of eight. Don't waste your bandwidth.

Demo keeps crashing for me, I posted in another thread, can someone with a GTX 680 give this demo ago as it may not work properly with the 680. Post back with result please. Thanks.

Is this the same Dirt Showdown that's being given away with the 79..series AMD cards or is 'Destruction' a spin off of the new Showdown?

I used to love Destruction Derby back in the day, hopefully this'll be good.

And I too LONG for a decent 'rally' only game, full points league etc and no other styles thrown in for the console generation!
