Lost my Dog

OP - I'm seriously sorry for your loss.....must be a horrific experience.

However, in my opinion your should forget all this talk of harvesting sperm and getting him stuffed. The best thing you can do is grieve for a while, then go and get another dog from a rescue center. There are plenty of dogs out there looking for a home - and they're all special in their own way. Instead of trying to hang on to your lost friend, wouldn't it be nicer to know you're rescuing another dog and giving him a great life too?

You do realise that inseminating a bitch with your dog's sperm won't create a clone, don't you? And even if you did clone it, iit would still be a very different dog. Sorry if that sounds patronising but your post would seem to indicate that as being your train of thought.

Maybe you should just sit down and process this instead of making decisions with a clouded manic mind that is the result of a great loss. It's entirely normal to make wild decisions and take extreme measures after a significant emotional thump but those actions and decisions are rarely rational.

Seriously man, sit down and read what you've just written. Your dog is dead. No amount of sperm is going to bring it back. Let it go.

+1..sorry but thats some crazy stuff you have spouted off OP...sorry for your loss but seriously i hope you are joking because thats just absolute nuts ie harvesting his sperm from his dead body:eek:

sorry for your loss, and as for the decisions your making at the moment, i find them not at all odd, you are obviously used to making out of the box decisions, based on the facts/circumstance around you.

your dog has been killed, you accepted that quikly, and made lightning decisions to preserve him in two ways that where in themselves time critical.

1) you need to harvest his sperm fast before decay
2) to preserve the body so that you can do the above, but also make sure he is in good condition for the taxidermist.

good luck matey, i do hope one of those pups turns out just like him.

Maybe you should talk to some people about your loss. Harvesting dog jizz won't bring your dog back.

Sorry, cant stop laughing

But seriously I am realy sorry for you, one of my dogs got run over once. It was a miniature terrier, flat as a pancake it was and the memory of my dad bringing it home in his arms is still fresh in my mind 15 years later.

Not sure if serious...

Ok so Im home its been a crazy day.

As soon as he died last night I thought about the sperm thing so I put him in a ice box full of ice.

This morning I took him to Brno veterinary research institute (200km away), as I studied at that university (im not a vet) I managed to get them to agree to try and harvest his sperm. They have never done this before however it was successful and we have enough for 1 or even 2 l litters of puppies. Because I had him on ice the sperm is in very good condition and has 70% motility.
The only thing that was not very nice is that I had to assist in the surgery as one of the Vets was called away but it did not take long.

I then took him to a crematorium to have him cremated. I then got stuck in traffic on the 200km drive to the airpot miss my flight back to the UK so I had to tell me wife on the phone but she has taken it very well.

I know it sounds strange to harvest sperm but he was an exceptional dog, we wanted to breed him for some time and this way his memory will live on in his children. They can keep it frozen for 20+ years so we are in no rush to “Stud” him but when the time is right we will hopefully use it. I just wanted to keep our options open we may never use it but at least we have the choice now.

With regards to my brother, yes it was his fault but it was an accident and accidents happen and we need to move on from that.

Here is my little boy again

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

Lost mine almost 2 months ago, it really is awefull. Stillo expect her to greet me when I get home sometimes.

I guess it was a good thing (?) you were in Prague; can't see a UK institute doing something like that.

Sorry for your loss.

What actually happened if you don't mind me asking? Just your brother let him off the lead when he shouldn't of and he ran off?

Very sorry for your loss, if serious. I'm saying that because.. your dog got run over, your flew back, your harvesting sperm, your wife has just got over cancer, and it's her birthday....

Not one to be a doubting Thomas.. but that's a lot of coincidences.

I'm still devastated over having to give one of our three dogs up to another home over a year ago, I still tear up.. so I can go some way to understanding your loss.
