Lost my Dog

I really cant get myself to believe that you managed to get the Uni to do the work even though they had never done the procedure before and then you also assisted in the op!!!

I think you are on drugs and your head is in outer space!

To be fair the guy has studied medicine and qualified as a doctor, animals and us are made of the same things so surgical procedures would very similar, he'd be more than qualified to help out.

As for being able to get the university to do it I don't see it would have been a big problem, the whole point of universities is trying and learning new things. I've only ever spoken to the OP once on the phone and seen some of his posts on here, he seems a pretty rational chap.

I am very sorry for your loss, I would be as distraught as if losing a family member, it's an awful time.
Some friends of ours recently had their little dog killed by 2 Alsations in a local park. Needless to say, their pathetic owner had let them roam free and had no control over them.

Bit cruel dont you think. Would have been better if they had taken it to the vet!

Sorry for your loss.

What actually happened if you don't mind me asking? Just your brother let him off the lead when he shouldn't of and he ran off?

we live in a big gated development with quite a large communal garden area so we walk him in the grounds 3 times a day without a lead.
My brother was standing by the exit gate talking to his friend and the dog decided to run for it. We are on a really busy road so a car got him. The driver did not bother to stop.:(

He should have not be anywhere near the gate with the dog without a lead on but he feels bad enough so I am not going to say anything.

Very sorry for your loss, if serious. I'm saying that because.. your dog got run over, your flew back, your harvesting sperm, your wife has just got over cancer, and it's her birthday....

Not one to be a doubting Thomas.. but that's a lot of coincidences.

I'm still devastated over having to give one of our three dogs up to another home over a year ago, I still tear up.. so I can go some way to understanding your loss.

Thanks, I was in prague when it happened, I was flying back to the uk to tell my wife (she lives int he uk) but I missed the flight due to traffic form Brno to Prague so I told her on the phone but I have a flight booked for today.

The wife's cancer, well that has been going on for 6 months+ but she is making a good recovery and is working full time. The birthday, well thats just bad luck.

Well the women has done it before on bison and mice (no idea why), as Colin said its a research institute so the whole idea is to learn new things. With regards to assisting it only took 10 min to harvest the parts needed. I have assisted in lots of surgeries so its nothing new to me.

Its the Czech Republic we do not have all the health and safety formalities that you do in the uk but I can't see why they would not allow it int he uk.

We still have one other dog but the one that died had something really special about his personality and he could never be replaced....

My sympathies for your loss.

I too lost a dog recently, he was only six months old and we'd had him since six weeks. It is heartbreaking.

That's unfortunate, but it's not like he was being a complete idiot - sometimes dogs just get it into their head to go for it and there's nothing you can do. I'm sure all fellow dog owners (me included) have experienced that. I remember when our dog saw the people across the road he liked and just bolted head-long across the road.....I was waiting for the bang, but fortunately he picked just the right time and made it across. He had never done that before and never did it again either.

We want to get a dog as daughter wants one. Must be hell losing one as they do become part of the family
