How about 1.8 Mk2.5 service schedules? Cambelt intervals etc?

Also, anybody know if it's very difficult to retrofit front fogs? A lot of cars don't have the option but I think it looks much better and a bit more functional!

Cambelt is 60k iirc, water pump at 110k, no idea what the oil interval is but I do mine every 3 trackdays.

The fogs came as standard on the VT Sport, If I was you I would look for a sport rather than a base model, You get a decent LSD, 6 speed box and heated seats for not that much more in price and better resale value

oh wait a minute, I did :D

Thanks for the links. I was looking for a Euphonic but fogs were still an option on this one. I read the 6-speed box isn't really any better than the 5. Better for motorway work but shorter ratios otherwise?

I have never felt the box was an issue with just 5 speed but then, I haven't tried a 6 speed. If you are accelerating to the point where you are doing more than 3rd and changing into 4th on anything but a straight country road during fun times driving, you are going way too fast or changing far too early imo.

Maybe on the 6-speed you need to use 4th a lot more?

I've no experience of the 6-speed and only a passenger of 5-speed models such as hurfdurf's.

the 6 speed is the same one out of an RX8, also has a different diff ratio to match the closer ratio box. I haven't driven a 5 speeder but I wouldn't want to be without my 6 speed. A lot of people cross-grade to a 6 speed if they supercharge or turbo.

I've got my heart set on one of these, want a 1.8 sport with full leather for around £4000. There are a few out there, just need to get my bum into gear and get test driving them.

Acceleration is better with a 6 speed box, and as mentioned above it is a good upgrade if you're running forced induction as it's also stronger than the 5 speed. My RS has a 6 speed box and my mate has a mk1 1.8 with a 5 speed, and having driven both I much prefer the 6 speed (and the extra power the RS models have :D)

I will be putting a six speed in mine soon as I already have the 6 speed diff and drive train from a 2003 1.8 sport and the diff ratio is not ideal for the 5 speed as it makes it a bit taller.

that silver one looks nice, don't let the tax put you off is easily rectified.
