We did our first camping weekend over the bank holiday to a lovely place in North Yorks called Giggleswick - all went very well indeed.

Now, we are planning on a full week to either south wales (tenby area) or devon somewhere next week and I have been thinking about a portable sky setup for when we are eating tea or lying in bed on a night.

We already have a spare sky box which I presume will still work with our current sky card?

Now, saterllites.......is there any particular one we should get? All the ones I see mention things like 'hotbird' 'Astra' etc etc.......I presume this is for different freesat packages?

Which one do we need to get if we want to receive sky sports/movies on our spare sky box with sky card?

Also, are these things easy to setup? Do I need a saterllite finder or can I use an app or something on my phone for direction guidance?

Cheers,
Chris

You need to get another sky card, as each card is paired to a single box.

You need the Astra satellite for sky at 28.2° east, as long as your know the direction, you just need a SLx Satellite Finder, about £8 to align the dish accurately.

But, I would prefer quietness for a week

You could just like ....enjoy the quietness? :o

There is always one who has to bump his post count just for the sake of it. Didn't want your personal opinion on what I should or shouldn't be doing, just wanted some tips on the question I posted.

You could just ignore him, getting a bit mardy is just going to encourage the anti-glamping brigade. Surely you're well aware of the GD banter?

This is a public forum. You're encouraging personal opinion by asking the question. You're incredibly naive if you think the responses are going to be linear and answer your question directly.

why not just take a freeview box? do you really need the sky channels on holiday?

I have to agree with others though if I were on a campsite in a tent I'd be well miffed with someone's TV blaring in the next tent at night.

If you are talking about "camping" in a caravan then that's altogether different.

You're going to get people's opinions tbh.

If I was disturbed on a campsite by someone watching tv, I would insert said tv into them. I go camping for peace and quiet, not to listen to some ignorant and selfish oik watching tv.

Just my opinion ;)

This, A certain retail park electronics store that has the same name as a fictional holiday camp normally stock portable freesat kits designed for exactly this kind of situation, they come in injection moulded plastic carry cases much like camping stoves do.

Get a caravan, or even better hire a hotel room and stop pretending you are doing something you're not. Glampers do not belong in tents.

This, as much as I love tech, if you go camping you should enjoy the company of others and just chill. However you probably do not care what we think, I found this site and you can pick what tripod etc, or for a cheap n cheerful one go on the bay.

That is a great guide. everything makes sense now. cheers.

LOL @ everyone else -- go buy some new heatspreaders for your RAM and take time off thinking too much. ;-)

What a dumb post. You're the one suggesting satellite TV for a camping trip. Sounds like something out of a Little Britain episode tbh.
