Purchased a new car sunday

I just got my dad's very good nick 57 reg Focus 2.0 TDCI ghia 77,000 miles, needing a wheel refurb and 12 months tax - Was sold it for £4000. That was a bargain.
If I have it 18 months and sell it, I break even :p.

Yours was an immense price! Enjoy :).

I got an 07 Mondeo Edge 2 months ago (2.0tdci, climate, automatic everything heated front windscreen) 89K on the clock for 3200 . . . . :p. It is the MK3, but I am over the moon with it.

Anyway, nice OP. I have driven those astras, I had it as a hire car, and I hated it. Each to their own though, I used to drive Rovers :D.

Weird price on insurance, I have 2yr NCB (22year old) with a Renaultsport Clio with mods (Exhaust/Filter/Remap/Springs) and mine is only £960!

Grats on the bargain though, even if it is a Vauxhall! :)

I have a 75, have had 2 600s and a couple of 400s too. I didn't 'hate' the Astra I drove (such a strong word :p ) but I still prefer the cars I've owned. Couldn't wait to get back into the 400 I owned at the time.

It wasn't that the Astra was bad, it just had no character and for some reason I couldn't wait to stop driving it again. Still, for the money it'll be a good, reliable car. :)

So cheap, I would feel guilty buying it that cheap.

I bought my last 620ti for £200, the same car fetched £400 odd when I sold it on - I knew damn well it was a steal.

Obviously not as good of a bargain as the Astra, but goes to show it's not a one-off.

Motto: always keep some cash to one side... just in case. :p

I have had my far share of bargains, but I would still feel guilty :D

The car is a great bargain. As Housey pointed out you could easily run it for years on peanuts and then still sell for a profit! I wouldn't care that it's a 5dr Astra if I'd got it for that much!

Insurance appear to be bending you over backwards.

I'm 22 (same age as you) but with only 1year NCB and I've just got my insurance on a 3.4l Porsche Boxster S (2007) for £640~. I bet your post code is a major issue but you can also try playing around with where you park the car. Parking it on residential parking or even the street often works out cheaper than a driveway or garage!

Try a quick quote on your car with GU21 2PB as the post code and see if it's much cheaper?

Yes but you have like a £1000 excess don't you?

Comparing individual insurance quotes on the internet is just so counter-productive it is essentially pointless.

Especially when you forget to add what your excess is......

And a completely pathetic excess so hardly comparable. Your insurance redefines 'unusually cheap' - even I paid more than that at your age for a lower group car and my insurance has traditionally been very cheap.

Even with the excess I'm still amazed at just how low your quote is....

Bargain of the decade.
You are quite clearly having some kind of kinky sex with the previous owner.

Well the compulsory excess is £500 and my personal excess is £400 bringing it to a total of £900.

I know it's pointless, that's why I gave him a postcode and asked him to try it

Even if I pick £0 excess I'm still left with a £500 excess for being under 25 :(

A £900 total excess is hardly out of this world when you consider the value of the vehicle.

I'm with peerzy on this tbh, having a high excess is fine as long as the excess is relevant to the cars value.

My excess is £500 with £150 compulsory so £650 all in.

Well there is no point in saying " well i can insure my porsche for £650 and i'm 22" without mentioning that you have a massive excess.

I could insure my car for loads less if i had a £900 excess or even put £400 voluntary towards.
