NASA spots light emitted from super earth planet

Seems a pretty inhospitable place, well to us anyhow. Although I guess alien life could live in extremes of which we can't. That or they just use the planet as a light beacon. So not quite what I'd call a super earth. But all in all any new discovery in space is all good, even if it has nothing to do with life.

Interesting read! Thanks Spenty. How exactly is it a "Super Earth" if the conditions on the planet are nothing like Earth?

Nice :) 41 light years away  Doesn't that mean we are technically looking at the planet in its state 41 years ago?

41 million years its took the light from the star to reach us.

41 light years,so 41 years traveling at the speed of light has taken it 41 years, not 41 million.

kilometres per second 300,000
kilometres per hour 1,080 million
miles per second 186,000
miles per hour 671 million

So people post about how making a thread with just a link in it is as good as spam, and then that gets deleted as spam?

What ever next?

Anyway on topic, if it helps us find other planets that could possibly host life then that's awesome! I want aliens in my life.

The giant planet is considered uninhabitable.

What a buzz-kill.

It's discoveries like this though that make me wonder what we would be missing out on if projects like the James Webb Telescope were scrapped.
