GT Academy 2012

For those unaware this has been up and running for some time now.

Includes leaderboards too.

I started playing this at the weekend.

It is good fun for a bit of competitiveness against your mates but you stand little chance of winning. I watched the ghost for I think it was the quickest time for the mild left bend (one of the first ones) and his car is basically just racing across the grass with the absolute minimum of the car on the track he could get away with. Makes it seem pretty pointless given the objective of it all etc.

Agreed. Great fun with buddies (I really hope the bring the leaderboards to GT5 soon. Its a joke that we dont have them).

As for the cheaters.... The lengths some people will go to makes me laugh. Will be interesting to see how GT/Sony rate some of the performances!
 
Some news -

Any questions about the authenticity of the Twin Ring Motegi screenshot that emerged yesterday can be quickly forgotten, as the image (along with another completely new shot) have been discovered on SCEA’s press site.

The original screenshot is now available in high resolution; you can download the 15-megapixel version here for closer inspection. Another new image of a 2012 Nissan GT-R emerging from one of Motegi’s overpasses can also be seen above.

As pointed out by Jay in GTPlanet’s forums, file names of the respective track screenshots clearly hint at which circuits will be featured in future rounds of GT Academy 2012:

Finally, Kazunori Yamauchi answered a question via Twitter that many GTPlanet users have been asking: when will you be able to claim the prizes earned in the GT Academy 2012 mini-game in Gran Turismo 5?

Responding in English, Kazunori stated that “all the prizes will be sent out together when the 8 week event is over.” Thanks to all of you who sent this in so quickly!

I haven't got GT5 yet so didn't realise they didn't exist on there. Is it worth picking up?

The cheating thing is just annoying as it kinda makes it pointless for me to try and do it seriously and also makes it really hard to gauge just how far off a genuine time I am.
 
If you already own a ps3 then its definitely worth getting as there are no other racing sims (apart from f1) on the ps3.

I agree, it's one of the best racing sims out there for a console, ps3/xbox wise in my opinion a little bit harder when you're using the controller but might have to invest into a wheel, gives me something to do when I'm idling on PC :D
