Morning!

Scenario: drunk 21 year old mate runs out of smokes, can't go a night without them so drives to nearest petrol station to buy some.
You try and encourage that person not to drive, but with them being a few years older and drunk they going to do it anyway.

What do you do?
Go with and cross fingers...
Let him go without you
.....?

Terrible scenario considering only a month ago another mate lost 2 friends in a car crash, 1 injured and the other physically ok...

Take their keys off them if possible. Otherwise walk away, do not get in a car with a drunk person otherwise Darwin would be proud. Would you really want to go with them? Is there anyone else around sober and fit to drive?

First, do not get in the car with him if you can't stop him.

Nothing much you can do really if someone is stupid enough then that's that.

You could call the cops, they wouldn't get there in time to stop him from having an accident most probably but at least they might take his license for a bit.

Don't let him go. If he is stupid enough to drive whilst drunk you need to take his keys, it's not just for his safety but for the innocent person crossing the road, or the guy that is driving oncoming and gets wiped out by your mate.

This.

But whatever happens, I wouldn't be getting onto a car with them.

Do everything i can to stop that person (keys, tyres, block him in etc) and if they still go then I'd call the police.

My daughter is attending a funeral today of an 18 year old lad killed a few weeks whilst drink driving. A harsh lesson for her age group of friends that they aren't as invincible as they might think they are or any age for that matter.

dont really aggree with that.

fair enough turn a blind eye to it, what if he hits someone on the way to the petrol station possibly kills them. if i were the person that could have done something to prevent that but didnt, i would feel pretty bad.

Explain to him the consequences of losing a licence for 2 years, or even worse, and how he would feel if someone who was drunk killed one of his mates.

and do not get in car, sounds to me like your so called mate is self centered and an idiot.

I'd advise them against it, if they end up doing it's their own fault. You can't be there every single time they've had a few and wants some cig to take keys from them etc.

If I couldn't take their keys, I'd have no choice but to slap him around a bit till I could.

He may not like it in the morning, but my actions could have saved someones life.

I suppose walking/cycling(assuming not too drunk)/taking a taxi/finding someone sober to drive were all deemed to be too complicated for his genius mind to think of?
